Linux CANNOT run on M1 or M2 Mac software. Because it is too outdated and would never be compatible with the Apple M1 or M2 architecture. The intense calculations that Mac software makes is simply too advanced for some Finnish guy's DOS kernel to decipher.
how do you fix terminal latency? key repeat speed is just defaults write -g InitialKeyRepeat -int 10 # normal minimum is 15 (225 ms)
defaults write -g KeyRepeat -int 1 # normal minimum is 2 (30 ms)[/code
The stage thing is another dumb gimmick. macOS window management is eternally cursed by the designers. It's a good moment to grab a M1 Air to install Asahi.
Don’t listen to . While MacOS’s window management may suck, the stuff you lose out on in Linux and the problems you get on Linux on Mac is ten times worse.
Yeah but when you are paying so much for a Mac, installing Linux gets rid of so much like easy file sharing with AirDrop, integrated messaging, HDR video playback on the screen you pay so much for, more trivial app downloading (although flatpaks do attempt to remedy this), native image/pdf viewer that supports like 98% of formats under the Sun, better Bluetooth connectivity (anecdotal), and quite a bit more.
Like, if you are going to install Linux on Mac for regular use, then going for a cheaper Intel laptop or a powerful workstation with better support for Linux is a far better play.
>easy file sharing with AirDrop
kde connect, sshfs >integrated messaging
only amerimutts care about this >HDR video playback on the screen you pay so much for
this will be a fair point when someone actually implements HDR well on commodity hardware, which has yet to happen
apple studio display doesn't even try to support it btw :^) >more trivial app downloading (although flatpaks do attempt to remedy this)
when i tied OS X years ago i already used pkgsrc more often than not so this isn't a selling point for everyone. old fashioned package managers aren't universal solutions but imo they get way too much flak thrown at them. >native image/pdf viewer that supports like 98% of formats under the Sun
this is not an issue on any desktop OS >better Bluetooth connectivity (anecdotal)
kek but w/e you do you

i agree in principle, but the quality of business laptops has been declining rapidly for years, since manufacturers keep losing business to apple and they don't know how to reclaim sales. it's become so hard to find a good laptop that at this point i feel like if asahi linux become stable, it might be a realistic option.
supposedly HP is making a freetard-friendly laptop but the thought of ever paying money for an HP product again makes me slightly nauseous
I find the m1 chip annoying. Sometimes it's truly amazing. There's so much developed for Intel Macs that just perform worse on my m1x Mac studio. Either buy a used Intel Mac or stick to it for now until more is completed. I would say by the m2 things should be better. Yes the m1 is fast. I feel it's about to get outstripped and development will target better chips. It's like the first run Intel Macs, I used my powermac g5 well into the 3rd gen Intel. Gotta remember Apple started with the core duo, then core 2, then first gen i5, 2nd i5, and I finally upgrade to the 3rd gen xeon Mac pro. I switched to Windows 7, 8.x, 10, and now 11 and I find it just way more useful. I keep the Mac for iOS development only. I just released a game on the play store with no plans on supporting Apple at all. I don't even main an iPhone, it's a galaxy s21 ultra. I switched to a Google home speaker. It's like the more time marches on, the less and less relevant Apple becomes.

I actually just realized that Apple just released the new M2 chip. I had no idea. That's how little I give a fuck about apple products. I'm selling the Mac studio on eBay. I posted it up for auction with no reserve. Good luck fighting over my used shit. I just no longer care about Apple. I'll even put my iPhone and apple tv 4k in the box. Apple watch series 3, home pod, airpods max, iPads etc any Apple products I find around the house. Older Macs. Whoever wins the auction is going to get several packages just filled with apple products. That's how done I am with Apple.
The M2 is a pretty bad sign of things to come, it pretty much confirms that the M2 pro, Max and Ultra are all going to be marginally faster, use more power and be much more expensive. The per core performance probably hasn't changed much they're claiming an 18% increase in multi core which is probably less than a 5% single core increase.
Meanwhile AMD who was already beating them in single core just announced a 15%+ single core performance increase for Zen4 and there are rumors of huge IPC gains in Zen5 along with big.LITTLE. The future seems pretty bleak for Apple, honestly. Who knows when N3 will be ready and they lost all of the talent that made the M1 possible.

I've been given a m1 mbp for work and I honestly can't tell why it's so popular with devs >function keys on touchbar >no tiling >launching a program from spotlight just brings the currently running instance to foreground >command key instead of control key
What is it that a mac can do that linux/Windows can't?
the point is that a touchbar makes function keys obsolete, programs are supposed to expose their most commonly used functions via touchbar widgets and you don't even need F1-F12 anymore
I've been using it for some time and I only need to use them very very rarely
>no tiling
Tiling more than two windows is a waste of real estate, the windows are too small to see anything
>command key instead of control key
you are conditioned by windows, control/command/option are all used and have defined meanings
The only time this trash is going to truly affect Linux is when apple have a serious attempt at servers...oh wait, they canned osx server and the hardware.
Linux never got to that point, and it never will after being more or less taken over by the retards at Redhat who are probably getting their marching orders from the US intelligence community
Linux is not deprecated. Can you install 3rd party desktop environments with ease? Can you choose what to do on your computer or does Apple dictate what you can or cannot do without your iThing? Does Apple provide the source code for their OS?
Where were you the first time you got caught molesting a prepubescent child, J. Louis Irwin, 39 year old tranny pedophile homosexual who lives with his mother in Austin Texas and spends 16 hours a day starting shitty bait threads on the LULZ board he ostensibly moderates?
How does it deprecate Linux?

Task view seems nice but it's kinda pointless if you have multiple displays
>Apple goes full walled garden just as they finish losing relevance in the industry
So your OS is a glorified thin client for linux machines now?
you say that every time
I unironically don't get this new shit on the left they added. Did they just reinvent virtual desktops while still having virtual desktops?
It's like Widgets, it'll be forgotten in 10.18 or whatever they're calling OS X now: 11.15?
It's like Exposé but always visible and one window is interactable. So like a task bar.
