never, actually. i've only seen them sold at thrift stores. my old job had a bunch on display in the lab, like that cybersecurity fag in deus ex: hr, the one with the vaguely british accent
Plenty of zoomers were around when vhs was the main format. Even after dvd took over, the poor ones still stuck with VHS for years.
t. Zoomer who still uses VHS
Actually seen one in real life, or used one for myself on a regular basis?
Must have been 2009 when I made the switch to LCD. Last time I've seen a CRT was just this week actually.
these things are absolutely bonkers for watching SD content and controlling video input/output for VHS cassette capturing or recording
as for pc monitors i should another mitsu tube as a temporary replacement while i recap the iiyama that has been in use for 8k hours without service
My desk is 20 years old aswell so it doesnt get bent from a heavy monitor.
Back in the day there used to be a thing called quality.
You could use older equipment for more then a few years without it breaking, amazing I know
a year or two ago. graphics card of old computer died, had to use the builtin video for a while. mobo only had a vga port and my old crt was the only monitor with a vga cable. I have new computer now.
like 2011/2012 at my cousin's place. from what I remember it was really nice and sharp just like the majority of nostalgiafags here claim it to be, but it was also an absolute nightmare for my eyes.
Honestly, what's the best way to get started on learning CRT repair? These things won't last forever so I might as well be able to repair the couple of them that I have.
Use a screwdriver and some house wire connected to grounz to discharge tv, then pull the board and start replacing components. Simple soldering. That's about all you're gonna do anyway.
Look into crt rejuvenation. It's a destructive process tho.
Retro tech on YouTube.
With monitors atleast the tube is the last thing you have to worry about.
I have yet to see someone wear out a monitor through normal use.
Electronics die long before the tube gets tired
also monitor tubes are built different then tv so a tv rejuvinator would just drstroy it
Me and my roomie had a 32 inch CRT TV in our living room while I was studying until 2007. Got my first LCD monitor for my PC in 2002 or 2003, not sure what happened to the CRT, maybe my roomie got it for a second monitor. At university we had some shitty sun solaris CRT terminals, but I'm uncertain when I used one of them the last time as I had my own laptop. Might have used one of them once in a while, but who knows when. Last time could have been as early as 2004.
At my parents place, my dad's desktop PC had a CRT until I gave him my first LCD in 2011 when I moved to another country and only had a laptop for a while.
In conclusion, last time I used a CRT desktop PC must have been my dad's in 2011.
Obviously I might have encountered ramdom CRTs around the world workout thinking about it. Like, I don't know when ATMs and the screens at the train stations stopped using CRTs. Probably not that long ago.
July 2006. I asked my dad to get me a HDCP compliant monitor, so I can play my PS3 in my bedroom when I'm not doing anything with my desktop. He got a 22" HP LCD monitor that was heavy as fuck, but it did HDCP, which was a hard requirement for PS3. Based dad
10 years, if not more. Used to watch cartoons on it. Still have the CDs.
never, actually. i've only seen them sold at thrift stores. my old job had a bunch on display in the lab, like that cybersecurity fag in deus ex: hr, the one with the vaguely british accent
>zoomers never inserted a videotape
Yes I did.
Also this.
>DUDE
Plenty of zoomers were around when vhs was the main format. Even after dvd took over, the poor ones still stuck with VHS for years.
t. Zoomer who still uses VHS
>still
It's just pointless affectation by now.
VHS istill has an extremely niche place for some things
Wasn't the big TV at the Braun tube shop 42"? This is too big.
there is a 1080p 80hz crt monitor thats 42".
The ultimate TV
Yeah, I don't think I've ever seen a CRT that big. I've seen a lot of zoomers misidentify rear-projection TVs as CRTs though
Of course I did. The oldest zoomers are like 26 now.
kill yourself obsessed homosexual
u not nice
LULZ baited me into buying a $10 one but it sucked ass so I threw it out
Just this morning when I played my PS2
what did you play? I bought a PS2 with the matrix chip but I don't even have a DVD writer. I only have pes 6
crash bandicoot 2
More than a decade ago, finally got rid of those shitboxes a few years ago
2010
2008. When I got a new computer and threw the old crt in the garbage.
Yesterday when I watched some old anime DVDs... Once you realize how crisp and bright anime looks on CRT you can't go back.
>640x480
>crisp and bright
>oh look a zoomer putting numbers up he must be super experienced
lower resolutions actually look good on a CRT because they work with any resolution.
when we switched to LCD it was cheaper but you had to use resolution scaling techniques which always made it look blurry
nah your eyes have gone shit and you're still in denial
I remember being always surprised how sharp the movie looked on a CRT TV after I pirated it and previewed on my then new LCD
probably 15 years ago
the quality of lcds has gone way up in that time. the quality of crts? i doubt it.
Actually seen one in real life, or used one for myself on a regular basis?
Must have been 2009 when I made the switch to LCD. Last time I've seen a CRT was just this week actually.
I am using one right now
I'm very jealous anon, I can't find any CRT monitors in my area
just keep looking, youll get lucky eventually.
Enjoy eye cancer homosexual
Also enjoy paying for a new desk every year since the last one got bent to dearh
these things are absolutely bonkers for watching SD content and controlling video input/output for VHS cassette capturing or recording

shit bait, no (you)s for you

Last week. I have a CRT as my main TV but I don't watch much television anymore.
2011
Sometime before 2008. I was setting up my PS2 to play with my friend, and I accidentally tipped over the CRT, getting a whiff of CRT smoke.
I have not owned any CRT devices since ~2003.
I might have used some public computers or similar at a later point.
a year or two ago. graphics card of old computer died, had to use the builtin video for a while. mobo only had a vga port and my old crt was the only monitor with a vga cable. I have new computer now.

month or two ago, I don't use my CRTs that often.
>tfw 1600x1200 @ 110hz
I need a nice CRT monitor in my life
no shame in enjoying a cheapo shadow mask unit.
clean up the geometry and enjoy your ancient games or whatever.
>cheapo shadow mask
What about high end shadow mask?
No, you don't understand. Any CRT monitor would be nice for me because I don't have one. I do have a small CRT TV for my PS2 though so not all is lost
>1600x1200 @ 110hz
interlaced?
no, it's a 2070sb if you're wondering.
fine too, I've never seen a high end shadow mask in person tho.
high end shadow masks are nice, but I slightly prefer my 22 and 21" Apature grilles
i have a 2070sb too
I wish someone would start producing CRTs again
2008... I know. I'm sorry.
Honestly the desk is the worst part of this. You ditched a nice desk with lots of usable space and a nice look for some bland flat table.
The lack of usable working space was actually one of the main reasons I let the old desk go. That and I wanted to have two monitors side by side.
2006
turned mine on yesterday cause i needed light when vaping my weed
Today
When was the last time you used an LCD display on your home computer?
For me it was 1984.
I'm using one right now.
today, I'm a crt repair technician

2005
Yesterday. I watched Bright Eyes on it.
around 15 years ago
2006 or so.

right now
I wonder if I will eventually wear my crt out
