They’re fine, I don’t know anyone that hates them or loves them but it doesn’t really matter

Stadium Arcadium was their last album as far as I'm concerned. They started going to shit after Mother's Milk though.

I think it's just because they've been around for so long, and haven't branched out much stylistically. It's textbook radio rock, which is fine for background noise at work or in a store or something, but I doubt anyone gets truly excited when they put out new material.

They arent textbook radio rock. Those are foo fighter. Who sound exactly like any other radio rock band. RHCP for better or worse sound like RHCP. Sure, they play in the radio a lot, but they are not the textbook radio rock at all.

Not the guy who insulted you, I never said I liked the RHCP dunno where you got that. They simply arent textbook. You might like it or not, but the funk base with the flea/frus combo makes it not an average radio rock band.
Creed, nickelback, pearl jam, foo fighters. ALl of those are generic radio rock bands.

I just lump them in with the beginner bands every high school kid likes: Nirvana, Green Day, RHCP.
Also they have a lot of songs that aren't funk at all.

It's rock you could play around girls and they wouldnt be turned off by it.
That's why they've been so succesful, at least in the 90's.

Because they tried to transition from being crazy, out of control funk rockers to being serious, mature songwriters but Anthony Kedis was still writing all the lyrics.

also reminder that RHCP have always been trend-hoppers. all their albums sound exactly like the decade they were released in. in the 80s they sounded like an 80s band, in the 90s they sounded like a 90s band, in the 00s they sounded like a 00s band. in the 10s they sounded like a 10s band (which obviously means they sounded like shit), etc.

oh and he never really did drugs, he just claimed it for dramatic purposes. maybe he tried a little bit in the 80s but quickly stopped when he lost a bunch of friends to heroin. otherwise he would have trashed his body as badly as John did.

Yeah I don’t really mind that, it’s like those rappers that claim they’ll kill a million niggas in a heartbeat and you find out they went to college and go to church every Sunday. It’s just entertainment

Actual junkies become non-functional in a hurry like Keef and Jimmy Page in the mid-70s or obviously John Frusciante in the mid-90s.

in the band's prime no, he did absolutely get strung out on heroin in the mid-70s which is why he was barely present on the albums from that period

I was not a RHCP fan until One Hot Minute came out in 1995 and I became a huge fan. I was 18 at the time and was a huge Jane’s Addiction fan so I was a RHCP fan because of Dave Navarro. Sadly this was the only album of theirs I liked. Listening back to it now I think it’s utter shite. No idea how they became so popular, Anthony has one of the worst voices ever, alongside Perry Farrell!!

Only contrarian homosexuals hate on RHCP. Probably zoomers who can't stand anything with more complexity than a drum machine beat and monotone mumbling.

I think they've never made a really good album but they have lots of great songs. They're also really good live.

I find that hardcore RHCP fans are normies with entry level taste and people who hate them usually are pretentious.

Overall fun band and good live perfomance if you don't take yourself to seriously.

if they weren't one of the most successful bands of all time, the "hate" would instead be apathy. they'd be like Primus, and most people wouldn't be fans but wouldn't begrudge them their niche fame.
but instead you hear Under The Bridge every day on the radio, and it pushes people to more extreme opinions.

I had a RHCP phase in highschool. I think they're alright. Bass lines are fun and frusciante makes just a few notes sound great. Anthony is clearly the worst of the bunch, and his singing style is probably the reason many people hate them. Other than that, it's probably how overplayed they are. BSSM is pretty cool though! https://youtu.be/OJGbJD3z4P4?si=vxirM_PnsiYRRZMC

Anthony Kiedis' vocals only got more annoying to me over time. Turns out being overplayed only dulled everyone rather than actually acclimating as if his style was good but took time to grow on you.

They made a huge mistake by putting out one of the weakest greatest hits albums early in the 90's. That 3-song turd was in all the used record stores. That should've been the end.
