What's your opinion on the Dodge Viper

Is the Viper an American icon, or Chrysler parts bin trash that deserves to be extinct?

The Tokyo Drift one was a 3rd gen, that's the shittiest and least desirable of any gen.

Never driven one so I don't know. But it looks amazing and the numbers are ridiculous, Both on track and o a straight line.

They are just as fun to drive as you imagine they are. I've driven a lot of cool, fast shitboxes, and the Viper is definitely up there. Anybody who shits on them hasn't gotten the chance to properly hoon one or is just a stinky euro.

One of the worst sounding performance cars of all time, old ones are cheap Playskool garbage. Last gen is good but still sounds like shit.
That said even the original was based due to Shelby and basically being a 90's Cobra.

Actually it sounds fricking great, but I'm unwilling to admit it to anyone in discussion because mocking Amerifats for going out of their way to make their only performance V10 sound more like a V8 is a greater cause.

I'll say they're tolerable when stock, but every exhaust I've heard sounds awful

Am I the only one who likes the gentle curves of 90s cars? I feel like this gen and the c5 corvette are beautiful. Is it just a bias cause I was a kid in the 90s?

      pushrods push gods homosexual

What you Onions drinking morons continue to fail to understand is that area under the curve is the important statistic for measuring performance, not peak power. Yes your dual overhead cam turbo reeeetec engine makes great power at high rpm, but throttle response is eh and area under the curve is shit.

Meanwhile Americans continue to make a compact engine with large displacement and good reliability and it doesn't cost a ton and it just fricks. The V8 is the undisputed chad engine. The viper v10 is the gigachad. I6 doesn't lift heavy but he's like the swim team captain and still pulls a bunch of pussy and isn't dead weight at the party so he gets a pass.

Every generation of Viper would make a boy like you shit his pants. You know nothing of being badass and it shows.

where tf you finding 170hp 5.7s? Smog era ended mid 90s, and everything surviving gets smog shit ripped out and given BPUs for cheap if you want to go fast.

It's a sports car you drive it in the powerband you absolute wanna be redneck moron

pushgods have more torque and a fatter powerband, and you don't run into the limiter if you need to hold a gear. Try again sonny.

Cuz like a 600hp Honda can run 8s and a pushrod car with that much is gonna be running like 10s probably.

Power to weight says you're fricked

            Anonymous

So now you're ignoring the engine and coping about the body they're typically put into. An LS weighs about 5% more (20lbs) than a 2JZ-GE and puts out 50% more hp. Turbos add the same weight to both so don't @ me with your GTE bullshit.

Also your 600hp Honda costs twice as much and will survive half as long. There really is no replacement for displacement; you'll always be losing somewhere.

that's the thing. pushrod motors can last forever at power levels that are completely satisfactory for the street, they can last a very long time at power levels too much for the street, and they can also run flat-out and last just long enough for a race producing 1100hp na at 10krpm getting 2 miles to the gallon.

there have not been any improvements since then.

Premium performance and cheap everywhere else,
The Viper may well be the last example of a true American big block high performance sports car.
Unlike the current drag queens made by fake Dodge, the Viper had always been a real racing car competitive with any make and model of similar specs at a significantly lower MSRP.

With the resurgance of high price supers, if Dodge/Chrysler still had balls they'd be designing a truly new Viper to throw in Chevy's face.
    >Yeah that c8 is pretty cool
    >Check out this machine that spanks it like a b***h for 2/3rds the price
But old America is dead and the flesh occupying it's corpse is becoming more rotten than what it replaced.

I don't think there's anyone alive in the position to give a Viper project the green light who has the passion to see it done right, cost be damned.

One of the greatest american cars ever made, second gen was the peak, it being dead is sad, but I would prefer its lineage ending on a high note instead of the travesty it would eventually turn into if chrysler revived it.

You are tasked with bringing back the Viper. One year only Stellantis halo car.
Do you keep the v10 or finally put a v12 in it, and what do you call the top trim (above the ACR)

      Anonymous

Why the frick would you give it a V12?

Keeping in spirit with dodge, we supercharge that sumb***h and fit the absolute fattest, stickiest DOT approved tires possible on it. We'll call it the Black Mamba to further lure in the WE WUZ KANGZ market. Records will fall, Euros will seethe, and only Lamborghini will have the balls to do something similar.

I think its a awesome car but even professional drivers say the handling is sketchy at best, no wonder a lot of less experienced wheelmen ate shit in these things. I personally would say the Dodge Demon outshines it. But its all subjective, isnt it?

I recently sold the Gen 3 that I had for nearly two years. What I learned is that the hate for the car was like the hate for Nickleback.. People hate it without owning or even driving one simply because that's what the person before them did so thats the "hip" thing to do. As an owner I can confirm the car was awesome. Surpassed every expectation I had for it. Gen 3 have the best aftermarket and with a gen 4 hood have comparable looks to the Gen 4. Drove great, looked better and with some exhaust work and a cam sounded just as awesome. Zero regrets owning it, only reason it sold is because the market is too stupid to justify keeping it. Made 20k on the sale of a car that's considered "undesirable".

All viper generations are awesome, the thing about the 3rd gen is that it doesnt seem to have something exceptional to make it stand out like the others, the 1st gen was the first and craziest one, the 2nd was the most successful, the 4th is the 3rd but better in every way and the 5th was the go out with a bang one.

        Anonymous

I mean, I can see where you're coming from. The gen 3 brought on the vert, the (in my opinion) best styling. it is also the same platform as the 4 and 5. 100hp over gen 2 with the best parts for modifying etc. the gen 3 has a lot going for it. as an owner what I git from other owners is that the gen 3 is least desirable because of the vert (I personally prefer vert over coupe on this car). this brought price down and then kids like myself (26 at the time) and other people who don't have Gen V money were buying them giving them a bad name.
