Yeah I do exactly that, which is why I don't bother with CLion.
If I have to fight the built-in debugger, if I have to fight with my software over which version of CMake(built-in or system) it uses.
If I have to create my own build presets for meson.
If I have to re-learn everything I know about compiler warnings and errors I ain't going to touch visual studio with a 10 foot pole.
I type my `meson-build` alias and life is great, I get to touch grass everyday.
I type in `sudo zypper in {lib1,lib2}-{devel,debuginfo,debugsource}` and life is great.
It’s kind of why I don’t bother with C++ in general, it’s an alright language but the tooling takes fucking forever to submit, I was trying to build a 2D simulator but the fucking toolchain kept fighting with me to the point even stand libraries were coming up as errors.
I think I ended up just doing it in Java since javac doesn’t give me shit
Ubuntu I hit install and 5-10 minutes later and everything just werks.
Picrel is more like Windows. You have to do so much random bullshit to get it in a usable state, it almost feels like solving a maze.
i was once buying a iphone X because my old phone broke and i was like >let's try apple
turns out you need a Apple account but to confirm this Apple account you need to receive a SMS. Problem was that my phone was broken so what should i do. I think i had to use someone elses phone to fix this idk what happend
>3 words to install a program is needlessly more complex than going to download.net, waiting 5s for an ad to finish, acknowledging that pro members can download 500% faster, saying no to signing up, download installer, launch, agree to eula, ...
So you would say
"apt-get install programname" for example is needlessly complex compared to looking for an installer, downloading the installer, executing the installer and agreeing to 10 pages of data collection agreements?
FOSS programs dont have telemetry agreements generally so you don't see them in Windows too.
VS Code when installed in Linux doesn't show me agreements, so that just proves Windows is better in terms of transparency.
Manual download from the webpage is better than downloading software vetted by unreliale maintainers. At least when I'm downloading it from the webpage, I know I'm getting it from the right place and the recent software,
As for 'muh apt-get superiority' windows has that support too! choco, scoop and winget does what your dnf, apt and pacman does .
You could also irm | iex some software but I haven't used it everywhere so I am not going to recommend it.

>5-10 minute
So you can install Windows in less than 10 minutes? I want to see that.
That's after the install anon 🙂
Fixing Windows 11 every other month is far worse. I don't know what happened to the quality of Microsoft's development team.
They fired all the snow colored people.
