Dark academia picks specific tones and fabrics but is on the while directly inspired by period films and thus by the (perceived) fashion of those times and places

dark academia is just a subculture of menswear, with its specificities of fabrics and colors. kinda got the best answer

dark academia is just a newly coined term for a aesthetic in which a solemn variety of classic menswear is part of.

Dark academia is classic menswear but edgy. Instead of combed hair, it’s messy hair. Instead of a well-fitting sweater, it’s a loose and baggy sweater. Instead of beige khakis and AE loafers, it’s dark brown cords and doc martens.

One reads fanfiction, the other reads physical books.

Variety is the spice of life, being eclectic is the best decision.

If you like dark academia, just get a good bit of mens dresswear and present yourself a few ways. the worst thing you could do is be tied down to looking like harry potter mr rogers every day.
