The truth is this "audiophile" (audiophool) culture comes from boomers who have their hearing fricking shot due to not taking care of their hearing. This is why they buy into and promote all sorts of audiophool snakeoil that claims to improve the quality of audio that they literally can't hear the difference of, but pretend to in order to have one up over other boomers.

Who else is going to Capitol Audio Fest? I'm holding off on buying anything right now because I might really want to buy something on a show special price. Usually manufacturers and vendors will offer large discounts off MSRP. I could come out with a Gryphon or AudioNet integrated. Maybe even a Grandioso.

There's also the headphone section but those are always really packed. It's sucks because you can't sit down with quality time -- there's always someone waiting for their turn.

Between audiophiles and speedruners, I sometimes wonder which one is more autistic?

      Anonymous

speedrunners use data to figure out optimization down to the tiniest bit, efficiency and having a most reliable way and predictable and quantifiable outcome are the most important
audiophiles are the exact opposite, no data matters except the price tag and all means of quantifying performance are evil, especially if the don't line up with the common broscience and delusions

"Audiophiles" are a meme created to sell low quality audio gear since "you can't hear that anyway, those silly audiophools are just deluding themselves"

Remember, we live in a world where most of the population does not even have relative pitch, yet we consider "blind tests" relevant.

      Anonymous

      >yet we consider "blind tests" relevant

Explain how the audiophiles who spend 5 figures on a setup can't tell when their wires are replaced with bent paperclips

        Anonymous

This never happened of course. I am aware that there have been several bad-faith "challenges" over the years. Audiophiles are generally successful adults who don't waste much time on things like this. Finding great audio without costing as much as a full-sized BMW takes up most our time to begin with.

I find myself thinking about this every now and then when working on other projects, then immediately stop the thought process with the notion that "there's no way anyone would believe that, no mater how carefully I craft the marketing"
Then I find out that some people do email a sister magnet company wanting to buy $1,500 cobalt-samarium magnets for their audio systems.

I've been seeing that recommendation and have been actively avoiding it, fricking moron bait that is.
But now that I clicked on it, it's even worse than I thought. It doesn't even shave the polycarb between the laser media and the emitter, it shaves the outer perimeter that contains no data and does... nothing?

they're dumbasses , plain and simple. They get conned into buying shit that looks like as if it makes a difference. That cable probably is worth more than 50 live concert/music show tickets, which they could have bought and went and enjoyed real music up close instead of in that shitty ass room. And not to mention, music is overrated anyways. It's all been beat up to death, all chord progressions, every melody, there is not much new ideas in western music. At some point, music all sounds the same. So then you're left wondering why pierce your ears with this pain when you can go outside and listen to the sounds of nature, wind, birds, trees, the subtle noises in the distance. And the best music of all, the deep silence. That's the peace and quiet that's missing in today's pop and rock culture. Go hike in the mountains for a few weeks, you'll come back a different man. This audiophile shit is a disease.

My $15 sony cans sound exactly like a 300 seinheiser whatever the frick. I do have an m-audio interface. Literal snake oil, the whole tech industry. Bought a $15 chink rgb mouse. Works as great as a $100 one. Bought a $15 microsoft keyboard. Just as good as a $120 logi one. And on and on and on. I've been an enthusiast of the tech industry for more than 30 years and today I watched nvidia's keynote. Left me a very weird aftertaste. I don't love this shit anymore. Have fun zoomers.
