>move house
>no ethernet ports
>retard mother refuses to let me even get a quote to get one installed
>claims landlord would never let it happen(????????)
what should i do? wifi is fucking unusable... i have a nas i rely on i need proper connection.
how is powerline? what about moca, i have a coax port next to my setup?
move out
find your own place loser
grow up and you have to be 18 to post on this site
i thought this site loved children my bad
yes, yes it does. just not in the way you're thinking. and probably on /b/ rather than here.
i love children
moca is pretty solid but adds a small amount of latency.
enough to cause issue gaming or anything?
this is the only adapter sold where i live afaik, feels so gross spending 300 on a solution when i could probably get a port installed for the same amount lol
3-5 ms which is negligible. Not sure about that specific adapter though.
Just get a long cable and tape it to the wall.
trying to convince her to let me do this. hoping i can just exploring other options cuz shes clueless
Just don't be a fag, women are malleable as fuck. Persuade your mom and ask the landlord.
>women are malleable as fuck
Not for (You) they aren't
You are speaking about youself, I speak from my experience.
Ethernet over powerline. Buy something good
>Ethernet over powerline
>good
but anon, I can only choose one
>mom
>landlord
ngmi
Just buy a house loser
Beat your mom's ass. She will always try to exert control over you. Even when you are older and you know that she's wrong and has always been wrong, she will continue to do it. So beat her ass now and get it over with
>how is powerline?
oh yeah for sure bro, it's the best.
definitely won't piss your mom off by tripling your power bill.
Why would it do that?
You could try supersonic networking. But there's literally nothing off the shelf that does that.
Use a flat Ethernet cable?
How about transferring data physically with a usb drive?
ethernet over power werks for me
Powerline is absolute garbage. Run the cable yourself along the walls using pic related. Not as elegant, but functional. There is no viable alternative to Ethernet.
>moca
use G.hn, it's a proper ITU spec and not some weird one-off thing
or use skirting boards like suggested
This, you can also easily upgrade ethernet categories in the future or add other cables such as fibre optic ones or electrical ones.
>wifi is fucking unusable... i have a nas i rely on i need proper connection.
I regularly use my NAS over wifi. Some years ago I got an expensive 802.11ac router with 8 antennas, triple simultaneous bands, MIMO and beamforming. I can consistently push 50-70 MB/s between a wifi device anywhere in the house and my wired NAS, depending on connection strength. Still not as good as wired, but still more than enough for almost everything.
>how is powerline?
Absolute ass.
>what about moca
Pretty alright really. This might be worth a try.
>what should i do? wifi is fucking unusable...
Why is it unusable?
I thought the same, until I tried wifi 6, and it's almost as good as a wired connection.
My wifi 6 gets 700 Mbps through 2 thick concrete walls and introduced only 1 ms delay
Anyone fill me in why you would want to use MoCA when you can just run ethernet cables on the outside of you walls? Because one way or another, you're running a cable, so MoCA seems more like Ethernet with extra steps.
Exterior cable looks shitty if you have to cross a doorway or a floor. If the coax is already in place get moca adapters. $150 each is retarded though, trendnet is like $50 or $60 each.
mesh wifi. i have my fiber line in my downstairs office, three mesh routers, and a switch in my upstairs office for my computers on LAN. it works pretty nicely.
Buy better Wifi
Just put your nas next to your pc.
Just put in the jacks yourself. Cut the drywall, put in an old work box and an ethernet keystone jack, run some cat6 to the other end with the same thing. You might even be able to repurpose preexisting holes meant for phone lines that nobody bothers with.
How difficult or easy this is depends entirely on the location of the router and your room, however. If they're on the same floor along the same interior wall it could be ridiculously simple to go from one side to the other. Or it could be an absolute fucking nightmare if you need to go up to different stories through exterior walls etc.
you should reconsider how you treat your mother. no one will ever you love you as much in your life. one day she will die, and if you you treated her like shit until the day she died, you will regret it for the rest of your life. dont put it off until later, right now is the time to show your mother the love she deserves
not OP, but i love more my father then my mother. he supported me all the way trough and believed in me when i wanted to do ESO->FP medio->FP superior->university, while my mother wanted me to follow the standarized route of ESO->bachellor->University
>my mother wanted me to do something
>therefore i love her less
getting pretty big sociopath vibes
House I moved into I ran all the cables myself. My servers, router and switch were all in the basement. So I ran cables to the living room and upstairs office. The basement ceiling everything was exposed so I simply ran the cable and drilled a hole through the upstairs floor in a corner of the room that required it. Could I have made it fancy? Sure. But sometimes simple, quick and easy works just as well to.
find the closest length of Ethernet, tie a noose with it, and then look through it. TLDR; it's over for you
Just do it yourself when she isn't home.

Get a tape measure, climb into the attic, figure out where the wall is where the router is and where the wall is the you want to connect your pc. Drop an end of the ethernet down each wall. Cut out a tiny hole, connect the cable to the wall plate, screw it right into the drywall.
Under $25 and 15 minutes of your time.
run the cables in the corners
Powerline is hot garbage. MOCA is iffy, since it depends on the cable quality in your walls; poorly terminated cables can fuck over your signal.
You could google how to fish cables through walls. Or, just get a long cable and put it on your floor like a slob, and maybe get some cable covers later.
Get a set of PowerLine Adapters, they work great for me. Just don't expect 10Gbit-Speeds from them.
>how is powerline?
shit
>what about moca
Pretty decent, I'm running 2.5gbit over some shitty thin 30+ year old cable that was still in the wall.
don't call your mother retard, retard
