What's self indulgent about the desire? Actions taken towards it can be considered that from some angle or another, maybe, but a desire is intrinsic and separate from judgements like that.

I care about others in general, but no, no one in particular. I think its indulgent because it’s what I want, but if I asked everyone in my life, I think they would prefer if I didn’t transition.
Wanting to be the opposite sex is pretty much being trans though lol. Transitioning of course isn't the same exact same thing but it's as close as you can get. Like do I WANT to be a tranny? Is this ideal? No not really I'd rather be a cis woman. It's enough though for me to be happier with my body and how my social life is and it's way preferable to being a man.
That sounds exactly what people used to mean when they said gender dysphora and that's when some people decided to transition and become a "transsexual".
I don't know if it would be good for you or bad for you to try that. It's only really something that you yourself can try to know. I'd say that a therapist could help, but these days to be honest they all seem to be brainwashed into that 'affirmation only'. That's basically them borderline lying and neglecting to critically help you figure out your thoughts properly. I thin that's what's leading to the de-transitioners seeming to become more common.
"Trans" never used to be an 'identity' or a 'movement' or anything like that. "Trans" was a word used to describe what you seem to be describing, but nobody can tell you whether something like transition would be good for you to even try or not.

Do you wish you were a women or do you wish you were free of your responsibilities as a man?
I want to be a woman, but it seems self indulgent. I dont want to eschew my responsibilities because I have a hard time trusting others to do them
which responsibilities do you think you're eschewing?

Do you have people you need to care for?

Are you going to live for other people's desires forever?
literally me except it's everyone who is aware of my existence
