What's a pair of pants that are less formal than chinos, more formal than sweatpants and are comfortable (not jeans).

let me introduce you to linen pants. Also consider features like pleated front, cuffed hems, semi-lined. Altough some think pants like these looks too formal and uncomfortable, it’s actually the oposite. I will never go back to flat front skinny pants ever.

This is what I was going to suggest. The linen pants I have have elastic waistbands and drawstrings. They also have a zipper and a loose fitting button. The drawstring stays hidden on the inside of the pants. In a world full of people wearing jeans I looked dressed up in these but I’m basically wearing jogging pants. Jeans are really the worst of both worlds. Uncomfortable and rigid, too hot for summer, but they also scream slovenly and low class.

I had 2 linen pants and they were bought used/ebay from polo RL and brooks brother. Docker, Paul Frederick are good starting places. It has been ages since I bought my clothes new/retail so sorry if this is not very helpful.

Woven, twill, maybe canvas or duck material, work pants in general.

I prefer technical pants personally. Lululemon makes pull on ABC pants with a straight leg that look more or less like golf pants or something.

I hate them because they always are stretch fabric but a lot of companies sell commuter pants now. Commuter pants are basically in-between sweatpants and chinos exactly.
