      2M-3 naval turret on MT-LB 1 chassis
Those turrets were used on every military ship under the sun back in Soviet days. Not unlikely that there are hundreds of spares mothballed in some warehouse complex. Give it a modern fire control computer and make it remote controllable from the crew department and you have a nice little assault cannon that can shoot down drones too. The chassis, is a great design, many countries use it, there are probably hundreds, if not thousands, in reserve. Fully amphibious APC, engineering tractor, ambulance, name it. Very cheap, very low maintenance demand.

As cool as this looks btw it never went into mass production. All those independently moving turrets (there are even more on back for shooting things behind it) were very complicated to assemble and maintain . it was also very slow and a huge target.

To make matters worse, the crew was 10-11 tankmen. The commander had to coordinate all of them, in a platform that could bring firepower to bear in 360 directions. It wasn't easy.

It was so heavily armored that its transmission and gearbox broke down frequently even after going minor distances.

Multi-turret tanks like that went out of fashion for a reason. They're unwieldy.

These were built for harbor defense in Vladivostok.

When the order came in to ship all available armored fighting vehicles to the Special Military Operation, some folks in Vladivostok scratched their head and said "Well ok, if you say so."

They weren't built for the SMO. They were built decades ago. They were probably parked near submarine pens or something and used as static pillboxes to shoot up IED speedboats or something.

You bet your ass the depot agent for the SMO saw the train coming in and thought "What in the fuck?"

F22 was a good plane, a solid machine, the F35 is not, it's a piece of crap so bad they export it to shithole countries knowing that the tech will be sold/reverse engineered.

The US fucked itself when it cancelled production lines of the F22 because they thought they wouldn't need it anymore as only terrorists were left.

Now China is building more and more plants to increase production of the J-20 (J-20 gonna enter service soon with WS-15 engines which at least match the F22 P&W engine), and at the rate that they are building + factory expansions (they just finished another one and are building a third factory for J-20/J-20Bs they might have close to 800-1000 J-20s by 2030.

Meanwhile, America is stuck at less than 200 and (going down) numbers of F22s that will never increase, America has no air superiority platform until their 6th generation air superiority platform comes online... in the 2030s... lol

chinas stealth fighter is a joke and benefits of air superiority fighter that f22 posses are outdated. The radar alone and avionics are allegedly the true ace in the hole. also shorter runways are common and was a major factor in Gripens success.

You are talking about the base J-20 which by the way all you said is just pure speculation, J-20b (second generation) is already on the way, with a new engine on top (WS-15)

                Anonymous

Forgot to add, base J-20 is already on higher numbers than the F22 but even if you argue that due to engine differences the F22 would be better, the J-20b won't take that long to be fielded in significant numbers, again, China built over 190 base J-20s on 1 factory, they just build the second and are building a third, who knows if they keep going, it seems like they wanna go cold war industrial levels on it.

The concept of an "Air superiority fighter" is outdated. A multirole aircraft can carry the same missiles (which dictate AA engagements nowadays) and fire them the same thus why there have been almost no exclusively air superiority fighters made in decades.

                Anonymous

This is false imho, the US itself is building a 6th generation air superiority platform

                https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F/A-XX_program

It's also not unknown that the air force regrets having stopped the production line for the F22 for that same reason, and why the F35 is exported.

The reason that the F-35 is better is because of it's versatility. It can attack sea/ground/air targets both at long/medium/short ranges, it can carry almost all guided ammo, it can operate from carriers, it can perform SEAD. It can literally do anything all the while it's near undetectable

It's not a heavy gun, more an equivalent to the US quad .50s used in Vietnam to great effect, it's an effective if odd design for dealing with massed infantry attacks.

          Anonymous

It's effective, is it? Tell me how effective it is, because it looks more ad-hoc than a mass produced weapon with its own designation.

They can probably shred infantry through most cover and I don't see why they would be used for anything than hitting infantry and perhaps light vehicles but that last one is unlikely.

These cannons really shine against attack helicopters. You don't want to sit in a helicopter that accidentally flies into the range of such a cannon. You go down before you can figure out who is firing at you.
With modern sensorics and fire control, the cannon can be useful against small attack drones too. But not when a human does the spotting and aiming.

This is true, any big gun that fired quick can down a heli.
Some anons explained that this model was designed for this specific purpose, hunting drones.
Don't know about the electronic equipment those may have.

Infantry form the frontline, armored support comes up the rear.
This is basic shit, the infantry protect the vehicle while it does its thing.
It's different with a main battle tank that has to advance but this is a fairly cheap solution to drones and massed infantry.
Most ukrainians aren't equipped with muh javelin and even if they were it will be cheaper to replace than the cost of the missile.
