Same I was about 4 years into conversion therapy then, life was miserable and I contemplated suicide regularly. I still do, but now it’s because of crippling depression not repression

Yes, the climate was arguably worse back then. At least nowadays it's easier to be aware of transitioning and to find resources to help. There used to be only bad representation, but now we get to have a little good representation too. To be fair, it's been getting worse recently, mainly in a polarized political way. Peak trans time was circa 2015.

the culture war exists because we now have allies. before everyone hated us so there was no need for society at large to argue about us. it’s the new presence of sympathetic ppl that has caused the volume of the debate over our existence to increase

Yeah I won't deny that a lot of the problems come from cis people speaking for us. Most people were and still are ignorant or apathetic though.

The thing that gives me hope is that the way people talk/act about trans stuff now is really really really similar to the same sorts of conversations I had with the same sort of archetypes of people about gay people around the 90s/early 2000s. In which case it will blow over soon, unless there is some actual rise of Stalin tier event.

I told my parents and they told me no. That was the end of that until this decade. At least I repressed naturally instead of having to go to conversion therapy. Sometimes I wonder if I should've pushed harder, but conversation therapy may have been the more likely outcome. Initially I still knew I was trans, but I developed more and more reasons to cope with repression every year. By the time I was 18 I was telling myself how it was silly I used to think I was trans.

  18. 2 years ago
    Anonymous

30 year old boomer. Born in 1992. 2006 was the year I started transitioning, actually. Being a troony back then was simultaneously easier and harder. There was basically no information around but transphobia wasn't so open and bad either. Getting DIY HRT was a little bit easier without having to go through so many hoops but finding out about it was a lot harder too. Even getting someone to give you an orchiectomy was a huge deal. I was in SoCal and there were only a couple doctors that would prescribe HRT. FFS was a complete fever dream and only the deranged even tried it and trannies had to get really good at makeup and voice to get by. SRS was a thing but there were like 10% of the surgeons there are now.

It was better and worse in a lot of ways. All this attention on us means it's easier for kids and teenagers to transition but it's much harder with so many people that want us dead as well. In a way I sort of liked being mostly invisible instead of being on the headlines and scapegoat of some event every single day.

Was born in 81' so lets see, I was what, 25?

06' was just kinda blah. Used to do lewd cams on Yahoo! chat. Got completely gatekept away from HRT by the doctors and psychs where I lived since I'm non-binary and didn't fit their definition of "tru-trans".

Had fun posting on 420chan and world4ch, visited Tokyo for a month.

Was smack dab in the middle of my lost 20s, living off roommates, smoking 2 packs of cigarettes every day, hanging out at Waffle House and the mall all the time. Playing a crap ton of FFXI and Halo 2.

Life was good but living in forced boymode sucked. My life didn't really get good until post 2012.

I'm almost 40 and browse by here out of nostalgia sometimes cuz I used to camprostitute on /b/ 15 years ago. It was way comfier back then if you were passable. No public awareness, no preconceptions. It was easy to just be judged as an individual like a normal person. If you did get clocked you couldn't expect any acceptance or basic decency though. We didn't have much medical support either. Most of us had to get our mones from the internet or mexico and DIY orchies were commonplace. Also the community was a lot more elitist and you'd get ostracized for being a lesbian or not being passable enough.
