It's as trivially easy as swatting so it's become a favorite pasttime of discord zoomers to the point there are "SIM swapping crews"

Weird all those big shots in Mr Robot used SMS 2FA instead of an authenticator app, including the leet hacker White Rose. I know the show took place in 2015 but those things were still around back then

I was permanently banned several years ago for having the audacity to... create an account. I literally wasn't even finished setting up the account before I was immediately accused of being a bot and banned. I made no attempt to post anything, did not have any kind of offensive or controversial name or anything. Only thing I can think of is committing the crime of not giving any real personally identifiable information.

Were you vpn'd? I've gotten immediately jannied attempting to register for social media and think that's one of their red flags
Also I think Twitter is like prime Facebook at this point where it assumes anyone who doesn't already have an account on their platform is suspicious.

If your phone number gets compromised in a data breach is it possible to get a new cellphone number that wasn’t used before by anyone else? Or are most or all cellphone numbers just recycled these days? The thing I hate about how everything is tied to a phone number is that when you change your phone number, you might gain access to some random guys crap, or someone else can get access to your old shit you forgot to close down.

      Anonymous

Someone sends you a DM asking for phone number so they could commission some dick pics.
Then they use the number to find your name and address from various leaked databases – the chances that you never used that number for anything but Twitter are nil.
