I bought this exact setup for $6 at yard sale a year ago. Also thats a terrible rig for gaming, no AGP slot and the board only supports Northwood CPUs.

I’m sure everyone on this board, and their grandma has 2 of this exact setup in their basement RIGHT NOW I genuinely don’t understand who they’re trying to sell this to

Look up Dell Pc on eBay, and it’s hundreds of these. And they sell. Not for $1000 but upwards of $100 sometimes for just the shitbox prebuilt tower from 2003

So evidently I’m wrong, and not everyone’s grandma has crap like this just lying around anymore, but why do people want if I’m the first place????

I can't speak for anyone else, but I just like old junk computers. They're fun to mess with and the look nice. I have like 30 of the things that I've collected over the years.

$100 is a fair price for basically any computer in good working order these days, regardless of age. Most of that comes from the work put in to restore them to working order. Things like PSUs and HDDs usually need replacing, if you'te using Windows XP you need a valid license, and of course the seller wants to turn a profit. Thats why I buy broken or as is machines. Those are dirt cheap aside from the shipping costs.

The seller in the OP is a retard. No one will buy it for that price.

I haven't paid more than $30 for a computer in about 5 years now.
Last one I paid $100 for was an HP laptop, Core i7, 8gb ram, 256gb ssd. That was in 2019.
If you aren't getting hobby computers these days for free or under $50, you are doing it wrong.

I don't care for the computers you can get for free these days. They're windows 7 era at best and most of them are built for windows 8 or 10. The ones I like are all either sold as is or are expensive. I just buy as is.

        >$1,599.95
nagger what?! How shit were the specs when it was new? How ass is the picture in the CRT? Does it even work? Shit looks all dusty, and I bet the keyboard is all shiny.

I've seen a similar situation with listings on Facebook Market, offerup, and Craigslist. I don't know what it is about those three (low barrier of entry perhaps), but the people selling on them are complete fucking morons. I've seen some listings for ThinkPads well into the Lenovo era listed as "IBM T480". Nigga-minded individuals are selling X230's for ~$150. That's how much a tinker tranny charges for a corebooted system. What I hate the most is when they're too retarded to set a price, so they set it at $0.00 and expect people to make offers.

        >I’m sure everyone on this board, and their grandma has 2 of this exact setup in their basement RIGHT NOW
        >I genuinely don’t understand who they’re trying to sell this to
Zoomers nostalgic for a time they weren't even cognizant to properly experience. That, or nostaligafags who just have to have the computer they had growing up. They had to throw out the original cause pop-pops downloaded too CP on it.

well for the average autist its free, but for the people selling retro PCs it's not. They're scared of viruses and also think the Windows 7 "not genuine" watermark reduces sale value.

        >They're scared of viruses
Not my PC, not my problem.

American Redditors and it’s slowly finding its way here too. A few years ago I could have gotten CRTs for free, because people wanted to get rid of them. Nowadays they cost like 20-80€, which is a ridiculous price for garbage.

      Anonymous

The CRT in the op is pretty shit. There's no way to adjust the colors. So if its worn at all (it will be,its 20 years old) you're going to be forced to use software color correction, which will not work while playing games. So this "gaming pc" is going to be displaying a every game with a puke gree/piss yellow tint.

CRTs are good, just not all of them. That thing was a mid range consumer display. The stuff that CRTfags wank over is the high end professional stuff. At least thats how it is for monitors. TVs are a lot more similar accross the board, since its all NTSC/PAL and they seem to have better shelf lives than monitors.

            Anonymous

They can be for some things, but the notion that they’re just better display technologies and everything is better with any CRT is just wrong. And it’s concerning how many people will swear up and down that they can totally see how much less lag their ps5 has on the HD crt than on a normal display

When actually the hd crt is a million times worse

Its a shit PC anyways, no idea why people have nostalgia for dell shitboxes.
Monitor looks ok though might be worth 5$

        Depends on the model.
If its a Phillips you sure can calibrate colors.
If its korea trash you can calibrate colors to, but you need to build yourself a softjig adapter

easiest is if there is a pic with the monitor menu pulled up.
Phillips menu is completely blue and completely text based, korea brands usually use symbols.
If you upload a menu with the menu to the /vr/ crt thread ill tell you.

Want to play the techtuber game? Take note of his channel. Drops 5 videos a day on "relevant" topics normies are searching. They're short, so if one is looking at run times, they click on his. They kind of ramble, but they're short so most just shrug off the time they just wasted.

I don't know how strict a definition you have of making the same video every few months, but that's probably because you don't want to see a year old video to see if your phone is still good, you want to see a video from last week.

I feel like those fit the same niche as any other nostalgia related pre assembled product. People refit 90’s mountain bikes and sell them for absurd money. People do the same thing with cars, appliances, game consoles, etc

My retro gaming pc is the culmination of several years of searching for the exact parts I wanted, and nearly $1000 spent on parts
But if you just want to play UT2003 and don’t know about any of that shit, you can just buy a retro pc that someone has tailored to that nostalgic spur use case.

That system is comically obsolete. It doesn't even have ISA which actual retro-fags desire
This item screams money laundering for drug money

I'd pay maybe $30 for the monitor.
If I felt generous I'd give another $10 for the tower, keyboard and mouse.

thats fucking ridiculous, people making bank off of just saving old CRTs and slapping NEW next to it. I'm about to sell my DS lite and slap Retro on it and see if people fucking buy it shiieeet.

Huh, I guess I was mistaken. $100 for a console you don't use anymore is still respectable.
