VINTAGE TECH GAMING RETRO Y2K BUY BUY RARE LIMITED CRT RAAAAAAAAARE
how did things end up like this?? Who the fuck is buying this shit???
I bought this exact setup for $6 at yard sale a year ago. Also thats a terrible rig for gaming, no AGP slot and the board only supports Northwood CPUs.
I’m sure everyone on this board, and their grandma has 2 of this exact setup in their basement RIGHT NOW I genuinely don’t understand who they’re trying to sell this to
Look up Dell Pc on eBay, and it’s hundreds of these. And they sell. Not for $1000 but upwards of $100 sometimes for just the shitbox prebuilt tower from 2003
So evidently I’m wrong, and not everyone’s grandma has crap like this just lying around anymore, but why do people want if I’m the first place????
I can't speak for anyone else, but I just like old junk computers. They're fun to mess with and the look nice. I have like 30 of the things that I've collected over the years.
$100 is a fair price for basically any computer in good working order these days, regardless of age. Most of that comes from the work put in to restore them to working order. Things like PSUs and HDDs usually need replacing, if you'te using Windows XP you need a valid license, and of course the seller wants to turn a profit. Thats why I buy broken or as is machines. Those are dirt cheap aside from the shipping costs.
The seller in the OP is a retard. No one will buy it for that price.
>if you're using Windows XP you need a valid license
pirating any Windows version from 3.1 to 7 is trivial wtf are you paying for XP licenses for
well for the average autist its free, but for the people selling retro PCs it's not. They're scared of viruses and also think the Windows 7 "not genuine" watermark reduces sale value.
>and also think the Windows 7 "not genuine" watermark reduces sale value.
there are people who don't have Daz's Loader on an old thumbstick? well that's their dumbass fault
>there are people who don't have Daz's Loader on an old thumbstick?
You genuinely think most people even know what that is?
Normal people no, but autistic luddites clinging to Windows 7 yes
>$100 is a fair price for basically any computer in good working order these days
I haven't paid more than $30 for a computer in about 5 years now.
Last one I paid $100 for was an HP laptop, Core i7, 8gb ram, 256gb ssd. That was in 2019.
If you aren't getting hobby computers these days for free or under $50, you are doing it wrong.
I don't care for the computers you can get for free these days. They're windows 7 era at best and most of them are built for windows 8 or 10. The ones I like are all either sold as is or are expensive. I just buy as is.
>$1,599.95
nagger what?! How shit were the specs when it was new? How ass is the picture in the CRT? Does it even work? Shit looks all dusty, and I bet the keyboard is all shiny.
I've seen a similar situation with listings on Facebook Market, offerup, and Craigslist. I don't know what it is about those three (low barrier of entry perhaps), but the people selling on them are complete fucking morons. I've seen some listings for ThinkPads well into the Lenovo era listed as "IBM T480". Nigga-minded individuals are selling X230's for ~$150. That's how much a tinker tranny charges for a corebooted system. What I hate the most is when they're too retarded to set a price, so they set it at $0.00 and expect people to make offers.
>I’m sure everyone on this board, and their grandma has 2 of this exact setup in their basement RIGHT NOW
>I genuinely don’t understand who they’re trying to sell this to
Zoomers nostalgic for a time they weren't even cognizant to properly experience. That, or nostaligafags who just have to have the computer they had growing up. They had to throw out the original cause pop-pops downloaded too CP on it.
>They're scared of viruses
Not my PC, not my problem.
Imagine the testosterone flowing through this lead-sniffing chad's veins. Based and neanderthal-pilled, fuck IQ, return to retard. Please be careful sir, there's a reason CRTs are meant to be disposed of properly. Wouldn't want your village's water supply to be polluted (more than it already is).
ESL, what are you even trying to say?
Northwood was way better than Prescott which literally killed Pentium as a brand.
Some of them have AGP slots. I had that same PC growing up but mine at least had a FX 5200 in it. Terrible even for the time, but still a GPU. I remember playing Splinter Cell and Halo on that thing.
American Redditors and it’s slowly finding its way here too. A few years ago I could have gotten CRTs for free, because people wanted to get rid of them. Nowadays they cost like 20-80€, which is a ridiculous price for garbage.
The CRT in the op is pretty shit. There's no way to adjust the colors. So if its worn at all (it will be,its 20 years old) you're going to be forced to use software color correction, which will not work while playing games. So this "gaming pc" is going to be displaying a every game with a puke gree/piss yellow tint.
Noooo it’s a crt Linus tech tip said crt is actually good!! It’s retro for gamers!!
CRTs are good, just not all of them. That thing was a mid range consumer display. The stuff that CRTfags wank over is the high end professional stuff. At least thats how it is for monitors. TVs are a lot more similar accross the board, since its all NTSC/PAL and they seem to have better shelf lives than monitors.
They can be for some things, but the notion that they’re just better display technologies and everything is better with any CRT is just wrong. And it’s concerning how many people will swear up and down that they can totally see how much less lag their ps5 has on the HD crt than on a normal display
When actually the hd crt is a million times worse
those cheapo shadow mask CRTs are still okay for old games and such but, it's not something I'd bother hunting down or paying more than $10 for if you don't already have a CRT.
I say this as someone with one like the OP pic that has <70 hours on it along with a 2070sb.
just enjoy your tubes
>just enjoy your tubes
I do, luv me CRTs
>The stuff that CRTfags wank over is the high end professional stuff.
they still pay $300 for "nice high end CRT" 17" shadow mask 1280x1024 60ghz smasnug turd that i can find right now in my country for $15
No matter how much I may respect the technology and look of CRTs, I will never go back for the simple reason than standing next to any and all CRT monitors causes me a massive headache. I can feel them in my ears and my brain, with the hairs on my arms standing up whenever approaching their radius.
Our condolences. Your malfunctioning implants will be updated the next time you enter your regular sleep cycle.
Your body is too weak for the power of CRTs
>your programming is too weak for the power of the cell processor
>high end professional stuff
the trinitrons they drool over are hardly "professional". those too all have dead phosphors by now.
explain
>dead phosphers
This isn't how any fucking crt works, much less trinitrons
Why are you using ebay lol?
I have one of these, found it on the side of the road.
Its a shit PC anyways, no idea why people have nostalgia for dell shitboxes.
Monitor looks ok though might be worth 5$
Depends on the model.
If its a Phillips you sure can calibrate colors.
If its korea trash you can calibrate colors to, but you need to build yourself a softjig adapter
how do I tell the difference between the models?
easiest is if there is a pic with the monitor menu pulled up.
Phillips menu is completely blue and completely text based, korea brands usually use symbols.
If you upload a menu with the menu to the /vr/ crt thread ill tell you.
>Symbols
Guess I have the koreashit then
Probably.
Was the cheapest shit around after all, and not half bad usually.
yeah any crt is good.
If it has atleast 86khz its decent enough to use day to day.
So any idea where I can find a guide on how to do that softjig thing?

Thanks m8
Even computer recyclers are getting in on this.
>Pentium 3
$400
Fucking christ
>Even computer recyclers are getting in on this.
Welp Im glad I dont live in muttmerica I guess.
I wouldnt worry, its a bubble waiting to pop because the actual demand for old shitbox PCs isnt that great
I checked out my local recycling center's eBay page (they don't let you walk in and take what ever you want before they ship the rest to Africa), and the prices they're selling their shit for is absolutely naggerlicious! $300 for a CRT and $100 for a "for-parts" CRT. $500 for a stack of "like new" keyboards, most of which I assume are just regular membrane keyboards.
The zoomer buying it thinks the piss color is a feature that makes his retro games look oh so good
The integrated piss filter technology really adds to the experience of every video game by making it look like San Andreas on PS2
I guess if all he plays is Deus Ex Human Revolution and Fallout 3 it would be fine.
This is the first lesson of selling to retards.
>price item comically high
>retard offers half, thinking he’s lowballing
>accept offer because it’s still obscenely high
>retard thinks he got it for a steal
>meanwhile you’re laughing all the way to the bank
It's called anchoring.
Items that actually sold are much cheaper, though still for more money than I would have guessed.
$100+ for actual E-waste garbage
It's good enough for grandma look at facebook.
It's not because it consumes a shit ton of power which is bad for her electricity bill
omg an extra $3 per year.
It really isn't
>modern webshit on a pentium 4
you're shitting me, right?
Not anymore. Still could be somewhat useful for everything except modern websites.
It's those retards who look for "retro" hardware while the same hardware can often be found up to two orders of magnitude cheaper without the "retro" search tag 😀
II: And then some retarded tech youtuber makes a video about it ("Product X - still worth it in 2023?") and the usual conclusion "Still a solid choice" (probably, sometimes while the youtuber wants to sell his stash of trash hardware on ebay 😀 )
Oh my god I hate those I see them all the time
https://youtube.com/@SimpleAlpaca?si=WXXbmlUSjFuiBJOv This fucker specifically. I swear he makes videos about the same 5 devices every 6 months
Was the iPhone 6 worth it in 2018? 19? 20? 21,22,23? He’ll tell you
I actually looked at his channel holy shit it’s worse than I thought. Multiple uploads a day of the same video “is X worth it in LATE 2023??”
like he’s making multiple “is it worth it” videos on the same thing multiple times a year, so he has to specify that this review is for late 2023.
I hate the internet
Joined 1015. 8k+ videos.
Want to play the techtuber game? Take note of his channel. Drops 5 videos a day on "relevant" topics normies are searching. They're short, so if one is looking at run times, they click on his. They kind of ramble, but they're short so most just shrug off the time they just wasted.
I don't know how strict a definition you have of making the same video every few months, but that's probably because you don't want to see a year old video to see if your phone is still good, you want to see a video from last week.
I'm trying to see what he was doing with his first videos, but I've only manage to scroll back a year so far.
*2015
T60 in 2023 years later...
Looks like he's been doing the same thing the whole time, or deleted his first year of stuff.
Well, basically, if you need some money, this is a scheme you should enter right now.
Not in 4 months anymore though. Personally, I don't need it, I'm retired.
>how did things end up like this??
Money. People figured out their old junk pcs could be sold to idiot retro game enthusiasts
>Who the fuck is buying this shit???
You don't realize just how much disposable income a lot of retards have. Also many people just spend all their extra money instead of investing or saving so really there are legions of idiots who buy overpriced shit if it makes them feel like they're getting some sort of collectible
Still guys, if I want to run at least 1920*1080(make it 1200 and 16:10 if you will), what hz will I have to deal with?
If it's below 90, this ain't no good.
If I put my Ryzen 1600 / RX470 rig in a box for 20 years maybe it'll be worth what I paid for it
damn retrotards are some of the easiest marks ever just add a few words to your listing and you can up charge 1000%
>threw out my old hardware years ago because it was worthless
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
>Throwing out things that still work perfectly fine
You deserve this for being so wasteful.
I buy them so I can destroy the CRTs. Permantly one less CRT in the world
You forgot those same three images you post in every thread.
can you buy from me for 2000$?
You can shove it up your ass for all I care at that price
>first CPU I actually owned myself was a used Q6600
Does this make me a zoomer
Yes. Mine was a 333Mhz Celeron. Much better than my parents' 150Mhz Cyrix at the time. Now to wait for the pre-pentium guys to call me a zoomer
Your computer had a CPU? Fucking zoomer.
You had a computer? Fucking zoomer.
>
Unga dunga bunga! >:(
Total Boomer Death
The CRT hype are all millennial's suffering terminal nostalgia.
ADMIT: the keyboard looks great
those are cheap rubber domes and I don't miss them
what do you use now? a hecking RGB GAYMING keyboard I presume.
a K120 is still better than most domeshit from before it
>a hecking RGB GAYMING keyboard
shit on them all you want there's genuine advantages to mechanical keyboards
>shit on them all you want there's genuine advantages to mechanical keyboards
such as?
>inb4 they glow in the dark... and you can press, like, 3 keys at the same time, bro!
>inb4 they glow in the dark...
it would be a great feature if it didn't have to be gay colors but was just plain fucking white
>and you can press, like, 3 keys at the same time, bro!
you can press N keys at the same time, I've run into issues with key rollover on shittier rubber dome keyboards, K120 is alright though
>gay colors
ironic because my keyboard actually has the gay colors and they don't even switch. it's just gay, forever
Logitech K845 with a plain white backlight, but really any well built Cherry Blue board will do. Just because you have sour grapes doesn't mean mechanical switches aren't superior.
shit nagger i still have the exact mouse and keyboard from when we had this setup, think i could sell them for $200 to some retarded normie if i put it on ebay?
I read that in his voice
same
wait until a retro israelitetuber makes a video about them
you can charge 1 million usd for it that doesnt mean anybody is buying
LULZ is most likely the board with the lowest average iq which is kinda ironic for the technology board
I'm glad "retro" has moved on to mid 2000s zoomer shit now. Means 90s stuff is going to be really cheap again, which is where real classic computing peaked.
I feel like those fit the same niche as any other nostalgia related pre assembled product. People refit 90’s mountain bikes and sell them for absurd money. People do the same thing with cars, appliances, game consoles, etc
My retro gaming pc is the culmination of several years of searching for the exact parts I wanted, and nearly $1000 spent on parts
But if you just want to play UT2003 and don’t know about any of that shit, you can just buy a retro pc that someone has tailored to that nostalgic spur use case.
That system is comically obsolete. It doesn't even have ISA which actual retro-fags desire
This item screams money laundering for drug money
seeing one of the worst cpu generations being sold for a retarded price is wild
>seeing one of the worst cpu generations being sold for a retarded price is wild
evergreen tweet
I'd pay maybe $30 for the monitor.
If I felt generous I'd give another $10 for the tower, keyboard and mouse.
Another from the same seller. He's also squatting on a trump domain.
Considering it's still up for sale apparently no one you fucking spastic
wtaf is this shit?
Apparently good enough that someone bought one (for not as much) a month ago.
thats fucking ridiculous, people making bank off of just saving old CRTs and slapping NEW next to it. I'm about to sell my DS lite and slap Retro on it and see if people fucking buy it shiieeet.
Ok I guess I need to wait a few more years for the price to go up for DS lites.
I think what that one anon said about money laundering is true
It's all about 3DS' atm.
nah same price as DS lite
heres one thats even cheaper if you don't include the charger. They aren't that much in demand, in fact apparently theres crates full.
Huh, I guess I was mistaken. $100 for a console you don't use anymore is still respectable.
