An anthology covering a wide range of poets and eras so you can find the stuff you like best.
Norton or Oxford are good. You can probably pick up an old Palgrave on ebay for pennies, though that cuts off too soon

      >Norton
$100 copy right there. I forgot these are used as textbooks and meant to put me into debt. It's been awhile since undergrad, I might still have my old copy in the attic somewhere.

Only £40 for me. And when you consider its 2.5k pages, that's not bad value for money

            Amazon.co.uk
Just checked yankee doodle amazon, and that is extortionate. Probably cheaper to buy it on the britbong version and ship it to the states

I suppose I should mention I'm looking at the most recent sixth edition. I suppose going an edition or two down wouldn't be terrible.

Yeah 6th edition. But the 5th or 4th will still be massive and will be much cheaper. Must be loads of second hand ones knocking about after people graduate.

If you've never delved into poetry I'd recommend "Western Wind: An Introduction to Poetry"

Just snagged a copy of this from Ebay for like $7. I'll run through it and then probably invest in a nice copy of Norton down the line.

It's really good. Note it is a bit dumbed down because it assumes the reader has either never really got into poetry or has no experience with it, so just keep that in mind. It blends both classic and contemporary poetry to show different devices, movements, and themes. Norton is good as well.

I have this. It’s pretty good, but if your goal is to write poetry it might not be so helpful.

Yeah, like I said, it's an intro for newbs. I remember I had a buddy gave an acquaintance John Ashbery's "The Tennis Court Oath" for his first poetry collection to read and I just face palmed lol.

Could try some of those basic b***h Poem a Day for a year/season

I've turned to pic related more than I'd care to admit. Editor adds her own thoughts and it's a novel concept to sort by emotion.
