                Um...it kind of is.
                The books in your trunk are likely to get damaged, if not from the elements, then from getting slammed around as you drive.
                And the books on your floor are likely to develop mold.

    as anon said, there is an anthology and there used to be a monthly TZ magazine. You can find boxes of them for sale on ebay.
    you can also look at the writers of your favourite episodes and look at their books. Richard Matheson might be a good start (I Am Legend)
    Much of Harlan Ellison's short story collections might scratch the itch as well
