Cross-Millennial Japanese-Anglo Cartoon Reverence. Future generations will never understand that period from roughly 1997 - 2004

Cartoon Network core. There was a period of time in the early 2000s where TV networks in America were starting to air more anime alongside regular cartoons and this captures that period in time.

This, it also coincided with Japan itself having a surge in interest in Western animation, being led by Cartoon Network at the time. Mostly Gennedy's stuff, although EEnE and Courage also had brief periods of popularity.

It's shibuya kei, a Japanese subculture and genre based around consumption of western music, movies and cartoons, which is reflected in the quirky style that usually fuses many different genres like jazz, lounge, disco, soul, house, bossa nova, jangle pop, film soundtracks and also cartoon music. Specifically, this album is part of a subgenre of shibuya kei called picopop, which is more electronic and cutesy. If you want to listen to more similar stuff, you should try Fantasma by Cornelius

fantasma is a great album but barely sounds like cartooom at all imo, something like sonic coaster pop - super miracle circuit or an usagi-chang compilation will sound more like it. alternatively, plus-tech squeeze box's other album, fakevox
