What even is a good casual top for a man to wear on any given weekend?

What even is a good casual top for a man to wear on any given weekend? Say, while shopping for groceries or going to a movie theater?

I’m too old for graphic tees, it’s not the right season for a polo shirt, and anything with long sleeves and buttons strikes me as being a little bit too formal/going-outey to be just regular everyday attire (although this is strictly my own perception and I’m more than willing to accept that I might be wrong on this account). What does that leave me with, plain t-shirts? Long-sleeves? Please advise.

    knit cotton quarter zip
looks kinda rugged and nicer than a t-shirt but its not too bulky and warm for everyday wear unless you live in like hawaii

It’s more practical and it looks better. If that makes me an autist then I guess I’m an autist. You look like a cringe normie.

Full zip sweaters are autistic. Buttons belong on sweaters and zippers belong on jackets and fleece belongs in the garbage.

I was replying to someone promoting quarter zip sweaters, not comparing full zip sweaters to button up sweaters. Buttons do have a more classic grandpa look but zippers are more convenient and better from a practical standpoint so I accept there is a bit of a tradeoff. I wear zip up sweaters to stay warm so I don’t want cold wind blowing through the gaping holes in between the buttons. Buttons aren’t always superior to zippers imo. Ever worn jeans with a button up fly? They are a useless pain in the ass.

Full zip sweaters look like absolute shit. They literally never look good. Get an actual pull over. Quarter zips get a pass because they look good. Plastic clothes belong in the garbage.

Quarter zips do not look good. I have pullovers. My sweater collection is deep, but I would NEVER buy a quarter zip. I like my full zips because you can unzip them if you get to hot.

If a quarter zip does not look good on you you should lift weights. It’s pretty much just your bodys fault.

Synthetic fleece is sportswear. I suppose if you don’t do sports you might not understand, but you’re probably just a stupid heck who has never been on an actual mountain.

    Wool sweater (crewneck)+undershirt
Something bulkier. Not a cashmere sweater, something with some volume
Flannel shirt with top 2-3 buttons unbuttoned is also casual. Longsleeve henley t shirt

I just wear henleys. Short sleeves or long sleeves depending on the weather. Easy, comfy, and look great if you’re masculine and fit.

Two shirts can both have long sleeves and buttons and still be very different in how formal they are. Shirts in casual fabrics (e.g. oxford, flannel) can be pretty comfy for casual wear while also showing you’re not a slob.
Personally I dislike quarter zips and feel like I mostly see them worn by college kids who are trying to get into dressing professionally, but that’s not something people necessarily agree on. Full zip sweater is generally a bad idea though. The other suggestions itt are good.

I only wear shirts, as do many grown ups here, if you want it casual just make it an ocbd, and you can wear a jumper over it

I’m probably old enough to be your father and I wear graphic tees

Then again I think NYI smells like old man so maybe I just have peter pan syndrome

Based if tee shirts are free and from a bank or business. Cringe if purchased for money. Double cringe if band shirts or pop media.

I don’t listen to "bands" because I was raised in a classical music household, but if I did, there would be nothing wrong with that

Wearing a zoot suit won’t make people think you’re winston churchill

I wish I could get into classical but it is just too boring to get into. I’m too much of a burgerclap to not have constantll driving rhythm. I get voice leading, counter point, blah blah but at the end of the day baroque is all IV V I with a predictable walkdown or up on bass and opposite leading on melody and the modernists are all tryhard and boring or unlistenable "it’s supposed to sound bad" on par with punk rock shit. At the end of the day I’d rather just listen to Bill Evans or Willie Nelson, simple as. Nice and relaxing and pleasant sounding with depth if you do want to analyse it.
