    > Zen Buddhism, whose goal is to transcend the ego
    > Ayn Rand's Objectivism, in which the ego is exalted
    Recipe for cognitive dissonance.

      >> Zen Buddhism, whose goal is to transcend the ego
You're thinking of more quietistic Buddhist schools. Zen will generally take the opposite line and say that there is no purity beyond the egotistical mental states, that the purity of bodhisattva/sunyata is in these egotistical states themselves and shines out of even the greediest and most selfish man. That's why zen tends to flout the paradoxical notion that all is Mind, and that there is No-Mind because Mind is formless.

That said, Ayn Rand is entirely materialistic and profane, so there would still be no common ground between the two.
