the ancient gods were all extraterrestrials, I mean some demigods must have been created here. you've probably heard that "zacharias sitchin" version of the sumerian myth, right? well, that's not entirely correct, the annunaki, which means something like "heavenly serpents", didn't come here for the crude purpose of mining (let alone gold), they came here from nibiru, which is in another constellation, probably Orion , to create a new world with new inhabitants, those responsible for genetic engineering with the genes of monkeys with the "unknown" other, which is actually theirs, were themselves, they created hominids with awareness of what they could create, they stayed with us watching us and taking care of us until a certain period, they came and went several times, the last time they were PHYSICALLY with us here was time before a strange reptilian type people, the israelites, who were planted here by enemy aliens to infiltrate, spy on and eventually destroy divine creation, but that's another long story, if you want more just let me know (this involves alien wars and ancient nuclear explosions on earth).

There's much liberal interpretation of ancient "myth" (which seems to bestow a prestige effect on any thesis that's upheld).

"One-Eyed Serpents" in the Sumerian story totaled seven, plus Anu.
