I’ve been leaning into western wear a bit lately (altho i make sure i don’t veer into costume territory) and my fav western wear brands are Mister Freedom and RRL. Gitman vintage also has some good shirts

cowboy boots can be tricky. you need to buy small so they stretch out to fit your feet. Even with buying half size smaller and a size wider my ariats stretch out to much. my next step is to try and buy a whole size smaller a size wider then using a boot stretcher.

Ariats are kinda expensive for just larping or dressing nice. I would go on Ebay and get a cheap pair of ropers to test out the sizing, then go and find a pair of pointy boots. If you find your boots are a size too big and a size too narrow () you are probably just used to wearing stretchy sneakers which will feel OK even if they aren’t the right size. Your feet are probably just a size smaller but you were afraid of being a manlet at the Footlocker no offense. Also be prepared for a little bit of room at the toe of your pointy boots unless you have some serious greek-foot.

If you don’t want to look like you’re wearing a costume do not get any of those god awful pakistani leather hats like in your pic. If you’re willing to spend $150 on some ariats you might as well spend $50 on boots and $100 on a used Resistol or Stetson hat. Do not purchase a hat made out of anything but felt, cotton, or rayon. That being said, if your western outfit looks too costumey or verbose without a hat on, wearing a hat will not make it better. If you like hats that are that shape you can probably get a used Stetson Revenger sub-200 if your head is a normal size.

Wrangler shirts, flannels, solid color shirts with yokes, jeans, dickies, wool socks. A wallet that isn’t made out of metal or duct tape. No embroidered shit because you won’t pull it off. If you’re going hatless, laced workboots are just fine. And remember that western fashion was popular in the west, not just by cowboys. If you are a banker dressed as a cowboy it will look like a costume, but if you just dress like a banker would in 1899 it’s still prime westernwear.

There’s no need to be purposefully stupid anon. Leather stretches with use. Don’t really know how I could "find" my boots to not fit right since it’s easy to go down to the boot barn and try them on. my advise is a warning to buy a smaller size boot so that when it stretches it still fits comfortably.

Ariat is okay as far as mass produced boots using modern construction go, I wouldn’t pay more than $200 for a pair though. Rios of Mercedes are in my opinion the best non bespoke cowboy boots, Lucchese, Boulet, and Blackjack are good too. For clothing Pendleton, H bar C, Filson, and RRL are good. RRL is my favorite but wait until Black Friday, Ralph Lauren usually does 40% off then. For hats Stetson and Resistol are okay but the quality isn’t what it used to be and the blocks they use are too short, tapered, and modern looking for my taste. I wear mostly Akubra’s open crown hats that I shaped myself. If you’re willing to spend the money then a custom hat from Standard Hat Works, Buckaroo Hatters, or D bar J is absolutely worth it.

          Ariat Heritage Roughstock?

Been looking at lucchesse majestic rope. they’re only 400 and seem to be nice. I dont look boots with too many patterns/embellishments, which most cowboy boots have for some reason

Make sure to try them on, the instep is really low on those and goatskin won’t stretch nearly as much as you’d think it would.

Any brand like h bar c you know of? I’m liking this shit. I’ve been perusing second hand Pendleton, filson, and schott for the past few months but haven’t been able to find anything good that fits me. RRL seems overpriced to me

If you like H bar C then you might also like Skully. I used to work at Boot Barn and would generally never recommend the Boot Barn house brands but some of the Moonshine Spirit shirts look good.

This is probably how you look after squeezing yr fat calves through the holes in those chicom boots buckaroo

RRL is the gold standard in western wear. Pendleton is also great for jackets but they’re more southwestern/tribal. Tecovas are good boots, just don’t work in em’

Ariats are fine if you get them on sale as a kind of starter Yee-haw Boot. Mine are the comfiest boots I own in spite of being chinkshit.

My suggestion would be to simply thrift or ebay older Wrangler and Lee. Introduce it piecemeal. Modern Wrangler Cowboy Cut boots also work very well for the price.

I’d look into these and watch some videos about both boots before you decide.

The Majestic Roper is an incredible boot, I’ve had a pair for a year and they’ve held up incredibly well.

Anyone got a Barmah foldable hat? I like the idea of a hat I can just throw around, stuff in bags and treat like shit and it will always return to shape.

Saw these two reviews and I think they look decent, but I’m new to the hat game so would take any advice.

Don’t buy a leather hat. They are hot as a son of a b***h and look shiny and tacky. You’ll look like you work at a zoo. Just get any "crushable" felt hat and you’ll be better off. A plain felt hat is about three times less hot than a leather one with vent holes. Why do you even need to pack your hat? Yes it’s annoying on an airplane but that’s about it. The friction band thing on those also looks stupid compared to a rain cover+stampede string which can both fit in one pocket, cost maybe $10 each. I use a lapel cord (hat button/wind trolley) and keep an $8 bottle of fabric stiffener at home. The lapel cord sits behind the headband and if its windy it just buttons right onto your jacket. If you want packable, get a crushable felt gambler hat, same shape and price. Trust me anon.

I’ve got some good western, and Mexican shirts, lots of bootcut jeans, some embossed belts and the outfits I have almost look perfect, but I feel are missing one thing. I always get compliments on how I dress from randoms on a night out, especially on the shirts which seem to be the centrepiece atm, but any additions I add, hat being obvious (and I feel like a dick wearing hats indoors) seem to push it into cosplay territory it feels.
Hankerchief around neck? Bolotie? new belt buckles. What accessory could I add that would give the outfit the finisher it needs?
