I’m hunting for some second hand barbour and that’s exactly the thing I don’t want to happen.

      • Anonymous says:

I wear the mock necks as base layers, so that extra fold would mostly get in the way, but I think I agree.

      • Anonymous says:

Barbour is supposed to fit large as it’s a top layer. I sized for a jumper or another jacket underneath, so it looks bigger when worn with just a tee underneath.

It’s also a function of cut- this is the Beaufort so it’s as baggy as they get. Different models fit shorter and/or slimmer

        • Anonymous says:

Looks like you could fit a thick sweater and a jacket in, which seems excessive to me. Personal preference I guess, I’ll make sure to size down.

not familiar with the term dougtier, can you give some suggestions for what color sweaters might make the look less dreary? I know this sport coat has some blue threads in it but I felt navy was far too dark.

I have a lot of v-necks from Brooks Brothers before they went to shit so my color options are wide. I just trend to monochromatic looks.

its the blazer and trousers that are too close in fabric/color. the individual pieces look fine, navy and grey is a great look

it’s basically /fashion/’s catch all term for any suit or suit-adjacent outfit that doesn’t fit the mold of Instagram hustle guys or the trad/ivy/prep stuff which at this point are the only two genres of that kind of fashion that have any market share
the more it deviates from those two styles, and especially the more disjointed it gets with loud colors, patterns and clashing formality, the more "dougtier" it is

        1. suit fabric are way too formal to wear it without a tie. The flap pockets don’t help either in that sense.

        2. white shirt + black suit makes you look like you’re working at a valet parking or waiting tables or on your way to someone’s funeral.

        3. low or mid waist tailored trousers are so out.

        4. jacket is too short.

        5. stop wearing so much black with that skin complexion.

      >because it’s a hecking formal outfit you dunce.
You’re stupid. That fit is about as dressed down as tailoring gets. Tweed blazer, knit instead of shirt, denim instead of trousers or chinos, and penny loafers. Everything flows together in terms of formality- the only things that could be improved are looser jeans in a fit that better echoes a trouser, and slightly less of a break in the jeans (one small cuff would do it tho). White socks would also be a nice touch but that’s a bit more niche.
      >it’s 90% knowledge (that knowledge being how to not look poor/uneducated).
      Which you clearly lack. Sad.

Focus on being healthy in general without fixating on weight. With a history of ED it’s a very slippery slope from restricting calories to relapse, or even worse, spiraling into BED and then yo-yoing back and forth.

lol thank u ! & prioritize the fit, nobody of value will be walking around thinking “hmmm that person has really manly legs” and even then theyd probably never say anything, u know? your legs dont really look that masculine to me either so .. just go with what fits the vibe of the clothes u are wearing better

Haha I was worried it might be everything. To be blunt, I know absolutely nothing about fashion, which is why I lurk here for inspo. 🙂 My ideal style would be a mix of grunge and boho, but I have no idea how to execute it. I’ve spent my whole life dressing to hide my body, so my closet is full of shapeless blouses and skirts, which is probably part of my problem. I’m slowly going through everything to see what can stay and what should go. It sounds like both this top and this skirt are probably worth getting rid of?

        • Anonymous says:

yeah!! those are great aesthetics to get inspo from 🙂 & id say neither of those pieces really flatter you OR match that vibe youre going for, so theres probably no real reason to keep them!! unless u have an emotional attachment or one or the other makes you feel super confident about yourself

good luck with everything! consistent intentional thrifting will be your friend for that sort of vibe 🙂

The neckline and sleeves suit you though, maybe take it in to be tailored so it fits your waist more? Your legs don’t look overly thick either, but they’re well hidden so I’m judging by the appearance of your thighs.

Thanks again for your help! I actually bought the shirt mainly because I liked the neckline. It’s really more of a tunic, very flowy, so it might simply not work with skirts. Anyways, I appreciate the advice!

          • Anonymous says:

You’re welcome. If you slim down a bit while staying healthy and you have it tailored so that it keeps its flowy character while still showing off your figure, you probably would be able to make it work with a contrasting bottom, and by that I mean the opposite of flowy. It could be a skirt, it could be form fitting pants. It depends on how you look in the future and how it ends up being adjusted by the tailor. As a guy I would also recommend showing off your cleavage as much as possible but that’s just me.

girl nooooo its ..everythingggg. neither the shirt nor the skirt are really all that cute :/ . & im just not seeing the vision, like why these two pieces together? u know?

tysm and I got opaque tights but they didn’t arrive yet I was hoping the noise from tights with a pattern on them would help with the manly legs throw off the shape of them, your outfits are all really good, pants like those are usually my go-to but your outfits are easily best itt

lol thank u ! & prioritize the fit, nobody of value will be walking around thinking “hmmm that person has really manly legs” and even then theyd probably never say anything, u know? your legs dont really look that masculine to me either so .. just go with what fits the vibe of the clothes u are wearing better

Okay I think (hope) today’s outfit is at least better than yesterday’s, but it still doesn’t seem great. How should I accessorize?

    • Anonymous says:

way too busy, clashing patterns, black tights/leggings are also really bad here. try stuff with solid colors and just focus on the silhouette of your outfit first

      • Anonymous says:

Thanks for the tip! Do you have any advice on figuring out what sort of silhouette to go for? I have a pear shaped body type if that helps

        • Anonymous says:

pretty much just keep the rule of thirds in mind and play around with stuff you have in your closet, keep doing it a while and you’ll be able to tell when something works. also look at outfit inspo on pinterest and try to see past the individual pieces to the shape of the whole fit

          >i have a pear shaped body type

          You’re fat
          You’re a male

          just close the tab schizo

      1. suit fabric are way too formal to wear it without a tie. The flap pockets don’t help either in that sense.

      2. white shirt + black suit makes you look like you’re working at a valet parking or waiting tables or on your way to someone’s funeral.

      3. low or mid waist tailored trousers are so out.

      4. jacket is too short.

      5. stop wearing so much black with that skin complexion.

      https://i.imgur.com/3mxJ4MK.jpg

Your jackets are too short and those shiny textureless fabrics are hecking cringe. Also, Navy sport coat with black shoes? Geez, just get some dark brown suede loafers already please.

I recognize that this is really bad, but I don’t know how to fix it

heck off, you’re never going to get honest critique as a woman in a message board that is 99% men, you’re merely posting for validation. Also, you would look great if you weren’t fat.

Thanks so much to everyone who has been helping me learn how to dress myself. My questions for this one:

-Does it look outdated/out of style?
-Can I mix neutrals like this?
    -Does the necklace work?
-Is the shape/length of the dress any good?

      • Anonymous says:

it looks like h&m from 2014 so basically you look like you haven’t even been able to afford h&m since back then and on top of that you keep putting way too thick tights with ugly dresses. and this is coming from another woman

      • Anonymous says:

        >Does it look outdated/out of style?
No, it’s not something i would worry about anyway,
        >Can I mix neutrals like this?
Yes, this is a neutral outfit so further neutrals and earth tones work.
        >Does the necklace work?
Yes, if you want to draw attention to your breasts/clevage. If you want it to be less distracting/eye drawing i would stack more necklaces at varying lengths to fill your décolletage
        >Is the shape/length of the dress any good
Yes, any form of stretch knit is generally great if you’ve got a decent body (you look great)

A cute layered cardigan + long coat with some scarfs/twilly/etc would add more depth and complexity. I really love the leg layering

this is cute! im not getting the shoes though. they are nice im just not getting.. the story..
& not gonna lie, i think those little brown pumas were totally the call, but i shouldve just gone with a sportier bag. was going for the bella hadid “”blokette”” thing with my accesories. i think a shoe that was too nice wouldve looked goofy given the rest of the fit

i probably should get the thighs/waist of those pants taken in though lol.

    • Anonymous says:

I’ma be real man, Its a good fit, but the silhouette of those shoes is shit. they’re too boxy and make the whole thing go down a tier. The colours are good, the textures are good, it’s just those goofy dockers looking ahh shoes that heck it up

      • Anonymous says:

I’ma be real man, I spent $500 on the loafers so I’m committed to them now.
Also don’t agree with your comments, I wanted something more casual and American-inspired so I like the shape. As for the texture, I think they look really shiny in the photos because of the terrible lighting. In person, the leather quality is great.

          • Anonymous says:

When was the last time I even mentioned where I bought the shoes, let alone which ones they are?
The institutional memory on this website is terrifying.

i wouldnt worry, 99% of this website is goldfish tier brainlets with no eye for detail (hence all the shit fits). i only remeber because you said they were handsewn italian

yeah, but yours truly is the exception. I can really see all the hallmarks of quality and the crisp attention to detail in the accessories

Loafers are a cursed shoe type. Never in entire online existence have I seen anyone pull them off in a waywt. Only instances they work is yachting prep shit (which is just cringe in general) or old euro guy swag (i.e. the kind of people who don’t post in waywt threads).

        • Anonymous says:

Fair enough mate, but if you’re giing all in on them then you’re gonna have to change up how you wear your fits, their looking like a european body with american feet, maybe add some western elements, or given they’re boating shoes some more nautical stuff like a fishermans sweater

ngl my first impression of you was that you looked very unique and striking (in a good way (again))
like if i had seen you walking down the street, you would stand out in the way a game protagonist stands out against npcs
idk how to really describe it
