    events, anon. plural.
    the long melt of the Pleistocene ice caused water levels to rise all over the planet. the Black Sea flood had an effect on Ararat (Urartu) but, also, there were floods in the Persian Gulf. and the flood of Sundaland seems to have brought a lot of displaced persons north and northwest.

    Let's put things apart and together again. If the sources in the Bible are reliable, we're talking a huge populational ship. Sealed so well for no water to come inside. The passangers can only have crossed some gigantic ocean like the Pacific or the Atlantean. However, there are some nuances in the text. "even the highest mountain tops were covered in water" = "even the highest mountain tops became invisible and covered in clouds" (this is how you read ancient text btw). My theory is there was two arcs of Noah. One sailed from the Americas to the Old World through either the Pacific or the Atlantean, the other sailed from the Old World to the Americas. That's the only reason we know both what the arc looked like and the things the passengers experienced while sailing in the middle of a gigantic ocean.

    Many cultures have flood myths but not all in the same time period.

      This, probably didn’t happen literally but there are many historical sources of different cultures w different language at different times

      I’d say that’s enough to consider it a historical event

    Probably

    Yes
    but water didn't cover the earth, and there wasn't one huge ark. Some ancestral land was destroyed by floods, and a tribe saved themselves and their livestock in what I assume was actually several boats. The memory of their survival and of their quarrel with other tribes before the flood has survived.

    Various cultures in the region also have stories about a flood, so it was probably based off of a real historical event

      cope attemting to preserve some part of credibility for your collection of fairy tales. claiming that a specific flood stands at the base of flood myths is in the same league as claiming that the sunrise on a particular date was the basis for the idea that the sun moves around the earth. witnessing ordinary floods and extrapolating from them without any idea of the many impossibilities thus entailed is a much more likely explanation.

          >believes the earth was covered completely in water for 40 days
          where did the water come from?
          where did the water go?
          why does this conflict with everything we know about Geology and Biology?

    Nah but there was a flood in what is today the Black sea, so technically it was a real historical event.

    There's something compelling about living in the shadow of snowy mountains that you know are going to melt, hearing them creak. Yearly floods have gotten consistently worse, and you know the next one will be big so you build a boat on your front lawn. I would be the guy too lazy to build a boat.

    Yes, it happened.
    It was a local flood, Noah had the animals from that local area, not the entire planet, and God most likely protected and expedited their repopulation.

    a world wide flood as in the one described in the christian bible did not occur.

    A localized catastrophic flooding event for a group of peoples that has been retold through the ages like a multigenerational game of telephone? That sounds more likely.

    A flood happened but localized in the area of Mesopotamia and Noah did not exist. The tale of Gilgamesh which it plagiarized from is closer to the truth and that too is probably based off an even older legend based off a real life catastrophe that happened too long ago for finer details to survive.

    flood myth is common in ancient mythologies so it may be some particular event or just that humans like water and floods happens all the time so it appeared independently on different ocassions.

    If you are Christian, you need to believe that humans were created as one man and one women and that there was flood that covered entire earth, because Christ said so in new Testament, and He cannot lie. And if you want non religious evidance, you can go with simple math:

    Darwinian evolution:
    We assume that: P0 = 2 ->1 man+1 woman, r = 0,00456 -> under one half of one percent growth rate, t = 500 000 -> half a million years of homosexual sapiens (Biology, by Raven and Johnson, p. 525).
    >2*e^(0.00456*500000) = 3.10777×10^990
    Bible:
    We assume that: P0 = 6 ->3 sons of Noe and 3 wifes, r = 0,00456, t = 5000 -> time since flood
    >6*e^(0.00456*5000)=4.78702×10^10

    Knowing that population growth rate could be sometimes smaller or even negative, we can see that result of second formula is much closer to current world population (7*10^9). And because small number of peoples cannot produce higher quality of offsprings due to incest, those population was made of people superior to current generation (closer to godlike Adam and Eve).

    The story of Noah is just israeli fanfiction that they made up after hearing through Babylonians the OG stories from Sumerian Epic of Gilgamesh. Headcanon tier shit, no different from Disney's soi wars compared to OG trilogy.
