Can you explain this to me like I'm an adult who understands package managers, flatpak, appimages, and snaps?

All the distros in the world could unite but they would never be able to make a usable OS that normal people would actually want to use.

      yes. it's called decentralization
but retarded sheep like you would rather have central server and take spiked dildo up your ass when that server goes down and leaves you nothing

NOOOO I CAN'T HAVE MULTIPLE OPTIONS AT MY DISPOSAL
I NEED ONE CENTRALIZED APP STORE SO THAT PROBLEMATIC APPS CAN BE REMOVED BY A CENTRAL AUTHORITY AND NOBODY CAN ACCESS THEM

      >VARIETY!?!??! YOU SHOULD ONLY CHOOSE ONE, THE OFFICIAL (TM) STORE!

*has to pirate shady shit he cant afford as .exes*

      >we could work together to make one good thing or we could splinter into 1000 groups to make slightly different versions of basically the same shitty thing
This is literally what Linux is all about.

So you want Linux to be communist?

        Yes.

        >This is literally what Linux is all about.
        Yes.

The problem with this is 90% of those developers make trash that nobody in their right mind would use for any serious work.
        It's a huge problem.
People writing shitcode with zero docs. "read it yourself, homosexual".
This is why fucking nothing gets done - Linux catered directly to the retard crowd by, ironically, being elitist. Retards flourish in elitist crowds. See banking. All bankers know how to do is scam bigger retards.
Being able to program doesn't mean you have worth. Being able to program well gives you worth.
There's a difference between writing shitty code you're only going to use and making production-ready code for others. Some people just vomit their shitcode over the industry and screech at you in 18kHz tones if you don't use it.

This is not good. This is not a good model.
        It's not even remotely good.
        It should never be celebrated.
Shitty coders have been the curse of the Linux community for decades.
It's not accurate to say Mom and Pop stores are a metaphor for this. They resell goods produced by others almost all the time. There's still quality control above their store that defines a minimum level of quality. (and most of it is at the least useful, unless you go to some scam-tier store like dollar/pound/euro/etc stores that sell cheap trash straight from China)

Why do we need an "app store" when package managers and AUR have all the stuff we need?

It has the Windows Store that no one uses

It's a decentralized free market. You made a distro and you don't like any of the existing stores? Make your own, now there's another.
