Uh, why would you buy a motorcycle and not transfer it into your name?

Uh, why would you buy a motorcycle and not transfer it into your name? The dude said he tracked it a couple times but it looks like it's setup for street still.

Am I the only one that finds this kind of sketchy?

I can totally see not giving the state $1500, plus yearly fees for a scrap of metal and paper if he's just going to do a couple track days.

    Frick the state.

I bought a car like this recently and registered it fine. Make sure the title is signed by whoever's name is printed on it and go to the DMV. If you need a bill of sale you can make one up and either leave the name off or forge it.

As long as you have the title, it's yours. Doesn't really matter who had it before that. That being said, you would want to make sure their aren't any liens in it

He has owned it for 7 years and never transferred the title, what the frick?

do you really think that whatever bike you are after is so rare and precious that you can only buy it off this guy

          >kind of sketchy
no it's called a red flag. just say you're not interested.
even if you managed to get the paperwork right, there's no way the guy took care of the bike properly if he couldn't even be assed to title it.

The bike looks good, it's a stripple but it's odd as frick he bought an almost new one, probably paid 10k+ for it and never registered it.

no it doesn't look good you fricking moron. it's a very common bike, don't buy the sketchiest one to try to save a few hundred bucks.

No he's willing to go to the DMV which someone with warrants wouldn't do since you'd get grabbed there by the on staff officer as soon as the ID gets pulled.

Okay...that's a bit of excessive time. I was thinking he'd gotten it in like April Or may and tracked it during the summer. I'd 360 on this one and find a new bike.

That's nothing. Most normies are debt slaves that spend 7 years without having the title.

What state? In mine you have to take the title to the DMV to get it registered, so it'd be pretty weird to not do so for 7 years

No it isn't. I have never transferred a title for a track back into my name. There's no point unless you want to pay taxes on the sale.

Everything I'm seeing says you need a title in your name to register a vehicle in OR. So it's pretty sketch if that's important to you. But I don't live there so what do I know

So he says he's going to register it monday. The problem is I see a good deal on an MT09 and I feel pressure to make a decision.

The 09 probably won't last long in this market but it doesn't have ABS which I kind of want - the stripple does.

If he actually registers it in his name there's nothing to fear, he simply was just lazy. I get that

Ask him to write you a letter by hand and then ask your local FBI office if they're looking for anyone with his particular handwriting.

For just a title transfer? What shithole requires that?

It's stupid. Study (not here) and read the legal specifics in your state or better yet for noobs just ignore every title that isn't clean and clear. Then transfer into your name immediately AND get the printed copy in your hand since DMVs lose records.

Anecdotes are trash. Copy the pros (used bike and car dealers) and piss on the proles.

Those snivelling about taxes can do what everyone else does and fill out a wreck price like 100 bucks.

You are not under pressure. It's a TOY. See clean and clear title, read VIN to ensure title actually matches all digits, then buy if want. Never go shopping hungry and never marry what you can pimp.

NOPE. Dmv will not register the bike until the previous owner pays their taxes.

RUN, do not walk away from this bike. You will never be able to register it.

if he gets parking tickets/whatever they go to the past owner and not him
because of scums doing shit like this the seller gets a slip to report that they sold their car here in case the new owner never registers it
also that bike has probably been in a bunch of chases kek

I'm gonna be real with you anon, buying a bike in the height of summer is the most expensive time to buy. Wait till fall/winter and pick up the same bike you want 20% cheaper. Don't spend the money just because you WANT a bike right now. Eventually, you'll find the perfect bike, at the perfect price for you. Patience is a virtue friend.

at least in my country during the off season the market for bikes and sports cars or convertibles is 20% of the selection during the better months
points on price though, it is true

i bought a non running project bike from a guy and never had it transferred because I didnt finish it so that could be a reason. when i sold it i just gave the guy the title with the guys name that i bought it from on it. im not sure if that guy had trouble. is the bike your looking at a 83 750gs? lol

He obviously didn't want to pay the sales tax, property tax, and whatever other fees come with transferring a vehicle in your area. If he was just track riding it, he didn't need the registration. It's technically illegal for him and opens you up to the risk of having to pay the back taxes plus penalties. Or if the original owner got a duplicate title and scrapped it to stop getting tax notices that could frick you too. Not worth the risk and effort.

I used to ride bikes with a guy and he was forever buying shitbikes that had no title. He did this for so long that when he finally bought a brand new (shit) bike he ended up losing the paperwork and I suspect he did it on purpose. I don't know if this ever came back to bite him in the ass, but the last time I was at his house his backyard looked like a shitbike junkyard. I guess he was happy with his kingdom of shitbikes and maybe he just liked fixing broken down bikes on the side of the road.

been riding like that for 4 years no problem, if you go fast enough nobody will even attempt to catch you, you're too much trouble
