I would appreciate opinions on these ties, thank you. I will post closer photos as well.

That's a very nice and varied collection!

        Thank you

Some of the patterns look nice (2, 4, 7, 13, 18, 27, 29), Are these polyester or silk? Ties that are more shiny (1, 3, 5, 6, 8, etc.) always make me think of polyester ties

I suspect most are polyester, but 1 and possibly 6 are silk. Unfortunately due to wear and age most do not have labels. The photos unfortunately don't capture the materials quite well.

Very nice collection! I don't think I dislike one tie on that picture. Are some of them vintage ties, from around the 1950s, '60s, and maybe '80s? I would say '70s, too, but you seem to not have a particularly wide tie, there.

2 strikes me as 80s. 22, 26, and 30 I would guess late 60s at the latest. 3 could be as late as the 80s. The rest are mostly newer.

I am open to style suggestions.

Be more discriminating. The thrift stores price them all the same, take the time to seek out the good stuff in the pile of shit. I've gotten ties from Brooks Brothers and Burberry at the same prices you got these for.

            This

Just look at the tag on the back, generally if it says 100% silk or made in Italy/france/us/uk it's probably a good tie. You can find some pretty cool stuff, these are all ties I've picked up in the past few months (the one on the far left is a seven fold tie)

Cool ties. Is there an easy way to check if ties are authentic? how do you know if they just slap a designer label on there

Explain? I assume the way the material feels, but fakes could also use real silk

If the tie feels cheap then you can automatically rule it fake. If you can't determine authenticity based on quality alone then you just have to be familiar with each brand to be honest. Fakes will always get some things wrong, the care tag is almost always wrong on fakes.

Out of the graphic ties I like 2, 5, 7, 14, 17, 21, 22, 26, and almost like 28, would definitely if it were a single piece, but it seems a bit geeky. Why do you have such a big collection, and what're some brands you like?

I had a few ties from when I worked in an office. I picked up two thirds of these in thrift stores this week because I might start going to church. They were only $1-3 a piece so I got a lot even if I wasn't completely sold on them all. What is an average amount of ties in a collection?I don't really know any brands, but my favorite styles are asymmetrical or non-repeating like 22 and 26. I don't know if there is a specific name for those types, all the ones I find seem to be vintage.

        Oh, nice, I'll try that

        I don't know, I own two since I don't dress up often.

    3, 11, 26 and 30 are the only 10/10 ties.

The rest are rather dated and super plain. Would work in a pinch but they would do.

God I can't wait for it to cool off over the next few months so I can get my ties and sweaters back out. I know it's considered quirky at best to wear ties with anything short of a suit, but I love the various color and layering options ties provide as an accessory (vs summer when I just cycle through the same few campy patterned shirts).

Like, 70% of the ties are so dull that nobody is going to mention them to allow you the opportunity to gush about what designer theyre from. But theyre better than a bowtie or no tie.

Throw out any polyester ones. Poly ties are awful. Silk or knit only. Doesn’t look like you have any knit ties, so get some of those.
