one of my favorite Swans albums.
I always liked the aesthetics of gothic country but always felt that 13 Horse Power and Jay Munly never went dark enough. They're great more more country than gothic.
The Seer hits the spot
top 3 swans albums for me, I first listened to it while driving through the countryside at night alone, and that creepy experience was phenomenal, really made me fall in love with it.
yep. Mother of the World was the first song I heard by them.
At first I thought okay that's kind of interesting, but not into it. Then I gave it another shot and listened to the full song and it clicked.
Then I listened to the full album and I loved it.

I'm interested to hear what you think is a good album
Glenn Branca as well as other swans influences already mogged what they tried to do, soundtracks for the blind is ni exception, compared to his symphonies the drone-ish tracks of the album sound amateur in comparison
And for the record, the trilogy's songwritting is a shameless rip off from the ascension compositions, except that the compositions by themselves were very poor, what saved the album was the unique sound and the fact that it didn't overstay its welcome that hard. The trilogy, in contrast, not only have a way less interesting sound but indulge itself for 6 hours
nah that's not true. Ascension 1 is overrated and the production is terrible. Ascension 3 is the best thing Branca ever did and it's still not as good as Swans.

It is though, it is almost trivia knowledge that oxygen is a knockoff of lesson no 2, and even if it isn't exactly plagiarism, it shows just how uncreative swans were

Branca signed Swans in the early days and Branca was basically Gira's teacher for years
How does that make soundtracks a bad album? It's still filled to the brim with objectively great compositions. It's a finely-detailed amuse bouche of beautiful sounds, heavy crescendos, and unique takes on industrial aesthetics, all with a consistently mysterious and creepy atmosphere. It might not be as original or as focused on the limits of music theory as The Ascension, but that by no means makes it a bad album.

Not all songs are as well executed as you make it sound, and the atmosphere itself is not as interesting as the album think it is. The good songs are good sure, but those are less than the half of the album in an album that consists in like 25 songs and 2 and a half hours, and after a while the album just stops trying to justify the length. The over indulgence ruins the potential it had

I know, so what, after +30 years you should have distance yourself from your master by now, and the worst part is that they did, but the reunion albums are just shit

Swans is the logical conclusion of what Glenn Branca started

I concede that it could have or even should have been cut down, but for me its oppressive length contributes greatly to its oppressive atmosphere. Maybe I'm a pleb, I've only been paying close attention to the music I listen to for the past few years, but I think that less-than-half figure is setting your standards too high. There are plenty of tracks that could have been cut, but most of them are really great, at least as long as you're into sound collage like I am. Either way, if it has good songs and bad songs in relatively equal measure it's not a bad album, it's a mediocre one at worst.
I have no idea who this is
Funds for Werewolfs the musical
I don't trust Gira. Financially dishonest music.

Irredeemable garbage, anyone that worship this creative bankrupt mess just haven't listened to enough music
post a better post-rock album
Soundtracks for the blind
Which is still a bad album, but has some good songs here and there and has actually distinctive ideas
