All they have to do is get a driver with a subtle but manageable drinking problem. Someone who is a PoS and will frick up eventually. Someone who can be villainized. Following?
Then they let the driver loose and start the countdown until he finally gets wienery and tries to drink on the job or something.
Then an "accident" happens with the software. Car or plane or whatever swerves wild and kills a bunch of kids or something. The AI "saves" it just in time and saves a few of the kids or something.
Then every news station focuses on how the driver was drunk or stoned or whatever.
AI comes out as the "hero" that stopped the worst from happening.
The article is ran in a way where all the fault is put on the driver.

There's also the question of who pays for liability. Industry won't want to. Insurance won't want to. The drivers who aren't even driving won't want to. Maybe government does like they do for vaccines?

            1. It's their fault if their self driving software glitches out and kills someone
            2. It properly aligns incentives for them to improve the safety of their self driving software

Passed off to BAE, who subcontracted parts of the code out to another team etc etc. There is no "obvious" solution when it comes to insurance. Photoshop had a massive negative impact on the section of art it applied to. Photo editors ever since then haven't been able to command anywhere near as much value and the whole portion of the industry went from businesses charging large sums of money to hobbyists doing it as a favor for friends and family. Photoshop literally put a whole category of companies out of business, and these AIs are much wider-reaching in subject than photoshop was. If it has a similar effect then we're going to be seeing a *lot* of really pissed off artists.

We don’t cry about how crossbar mechanisms put phone operators out of a job, because paying humans to do a repetitive, low-skill task is stupid and the economy will price you out of it. This is happening to artists and it’s a good thing, actually.
I suspect they’re seething because they consider themselves to be part of the cultural elite. The problem is the majority of them are selling their service to non-elites who care a lot about their bottom line/keeping their family fed and don’t care about prestige at all. If you don’t want to be obsoleted by lines of code, then be a famously skilled painter that someone can use as a brag while touring their mansion. Otherwise get used to $0.50 concept art and $2.00 furry fetish commissions.

Not even close. Blockchain nonsense is near worthless, it does nothing a traditional server couldn't outside true immutability (which is only relevant to the direct transactions themselves, and means essentially nothing for the applications built on top of it.)

Neural networks on the other hand are the beginning of a revolution in society. They are still relatively primitive, but the ultimate conclusion of their advancement is a post-labor society(not post-scarcity mind you).

And that's the minimum. AI will be able to fit into research positions soon, which will accelerate progresses exponentially. Imagine a data center running 6K PhD level scientists all working on the same topic 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

            >Imagine a data center running 6K PhD lev...
This is the use case that always caught my attention. At every big company I have worked at there are 3 or 4 guys who everyone comes to with questions. The ones I knew actually kept a personal log of problems and solutions they kept to themselves. Just for the reason of being problem solvers in support chat so they didn't have to do "real work" if they didn't want to because they were busy supporting hundreds of other grunts under them.

A single AI chatbot could replace all of that bullshit. It sounds like a little thing but some of the companies I know would get turned onto their head with that kind of change.

Blockchain is useless as a tech technology but it has terrifying implications as part of certain social technologies.
Imagine in today's world order that some country does a Bad. How dare they? But you need to build political capital at home, and abroad, and not completely successfully, to create measures to oppose them, or even to enforce the measures allegedly already in place.
Now imagine a new world order where everything is built on blockchains. Same country, same Bad, but automated oracles detect it almost immediately, immutable code-as-law gets run, and everybody automatically joins in on whatever form the sanction takes. You would have to raise significant political capital to not act. Depending on the nature and extend of the international integrations doing so may automatically cut you off from everybody else, too.

Bringing this back around to AI, AI would be involved in the monitoring, the analysis, and the execution of the decision-making along guidelines built into the code. The system would need some give to cover the unexpected but giving a human judge for example power to correct things pretty much defeats the whole idea.

            Anonymous

Or the body that control the automated oracles/provides access to them decides not run them. Or different companies implement them differently. Or a proxy handles the transactions. Or they use a different blockchain. Or they work in physical goods.

You're creating some incredibly specific imaginary scenario and it falls victim to the same pitfalls the current system does. Blockchain is a meme.

            Anonymous

            > Blockchain nonsense is near worthless
No, there exist very important use cases where a trustless, immutable systems are necessary and blockchains can fill this niche. A friend of mine is a PhD student working with a professor on using a blockchain in multidisciplinary, international laboratories for secure data logging.
            > Neural networks on the other hand are the beginning of a revolution in society
ML and AI are memes and the hype is vastly overrated. They are useful tools to have in some situations, particularly classification problems. For example, sensor tech in processing industries has exploded and some sensors need to be calibrated via ML to convert data into relevant physical information for each flow stream.
But the idea of an AI that has actual intelligence (i.e., AGI)? Not for a long while yet. AI can’t even figure out how to fold clothes. I think the meme is perpetrated by NEETs because they want to justify their shitty lives by saying “durr all jobs are useless because of le heckin AI!” but frankly we aren’t even close to that.

i'll be very curious to see the legal implications of this
at the end of the day, NNs can only generate stuff based on what they've already seen - there is likely already tooling made for debugging purposes that would let you see what parts of the output image came from what training images, and from that, you can see the potential licensing fees
now, if your NN is trained solely on public domain (or other permissinve licenses), it's all fine and dandy, but i bet these arent
i bet stock image websites are going to have a field day suing anyone who tries to sell the output of these, just like the asinine lawsuits in the music industry

patreonners, coooommission artists, concept art corporate hacks, and anyone else whose artistic existence revolves around delivering paid, polished, on-time, soulless 'art' precision engineered to make consumers' eyeballs vibrate at max frequency are all giga rekt by this tech. But that just opens up new space for what it means to be an artist. I had a lot of fun back in the days of early devart and even fricking elfwood (and VCL) following artists who were basically shit, but were very personable and imaginative with rich inner world and it was fun checking in with them as they spun up little stories, characters, plot arcs, etc and you got to follow along with them, comment, collaborate, etc. It was a social experience and that sort of artist role has gotten bulldozed under the relentless pressure to monetize, crowdplease, and patreonify every aspect of artmaking, such that if you're not cranking out photorealistic anime waifu wallpapers 3x weekly for your subscriberbase you don't even get to feel like a real artist anymore. I'm excited for art to return to being a thing you can sort of suck at and share with your friends and still have a good time with, because the robots have already cornered the market on hyperreal waifu tiddies and on-demand photoreal fetish porn and there's no point trying to compete with them.

There's the argument that AI art, even if indistinguishable from something a human made, has no 'metadata' associated with it - the when, where, who, why, how of it. So I expect in the future that the 'art' that humans engage in directly is going to revert to forms in which the metadata/emotion/intent/process still matters and is valued in some capacity by the viewers, vs the larger consumer crowd who just want polished pablum that makes their eyeballs pleasantly vibrate.

I totally agree with you and, doing commissions is a souless job, but this removes the possibility of a lot of artist to just survive with art. Art is already a brutal enviorment if you consider it only from an economical perspective, and really only the top 5% makes a liveable income, with really just a few artist that can have a similiar income of a lawyer or a youtube celebrity for example. 95% of the other artists are, and have been poor. Now that half of the market is gone due to AI and most of the artist will return to just do stuff because they like it and not because are paid or their fans demand it, how will they support themselves? Are you that will pay for him to do highschool doodles? Will you throw in his way like 2 bucks because you like his stuff? I doubt, most of those people will get an office job or another even more souless job than drawing breasts for someone and will let art go, maybe thinking about it once a week

Artists, Graphic Designers, writers, programmers, doctors, the service industry, hell even maintenance technicians and I.T. If it doesn't wipe out an industry it's going to lower the value of jobs and result in people being paid less as the human-workable jobs get consolidated.

What do I mean by human-workable jobs? Anything that employers see as being cheaper or more practical to have humans perform rather than A.I and software.

If anything this is great for I.T personel but for how long? Like I feel at ease knowing something I know will need people but how long before A.I progresses to the point of being more useful than humans? Sure it will create new industries but those industries will likely need fewer people compared to the industries now.

If you thought game marketplaces were already flooded with trash games just wait till the art barrier falls. Even later that generation will be procedural, done in realtime on demand, and streamed in memory.
That's the real endgame for video game DRM; The entire game only exists as a massive binary that's interpreted and streamed by a proprietary model and encrypted algorithms. It's volatile and gets destroyed when the session closes.

for years you guys have been saying A.I. was going to take wagie jobs, when it was obvious they are going to take jobs from the salaried class, A multi-million dollar robot and an AI is gonna take the jobs of a framing crew that shows up in a pickup truck with 6k of tools, lol, okay morons. A.I. is perfectly capable of eliminating 90% of code monkey jobs. Web devs are about to be obsolete.

I feel bad for some artists. Not most, because trying art as a career is like buying lotto tickets from the getgo.

That said, holy shit. 20 years ago the projected first career paths to get replaced were manual labor and retail. Retail was accurate, but next is art and ironically the next appears to be tech itself, with labor being last because no company worth their salt is going to risk a lawsuit just so their $60,000 construction robot can make a mistake and kill itself or someone else.

artists will just have to pivot to the genres that the large companies hosting these AI platforms won't want their AI to produce due to ~~*their*~~ influence.

like does anyone really think they'll let these things mass produce e-girl rape porn? artists still have the most profitable genres since those are the ones that aren't politically correct.

Almost certainly yes. I've put in some prompts with Reilly Reid. Most got censored but some didn't. The ones that didn't get filtered were freaky as shit since the body parts were all smeared and wrong, but clearly emulated porn scenes.

it's not some private thing that is being curated for a paper. it's a tool anyone can use literally right now. so a human being with artistic sense can generate images, pick interesting ones, manipulate those with other programs and tools digitally, and those resulting pieces can be trained on further or used as inspiration for more art
