You don't understand because the grownups lied to you when they said the love parents feel for their children is unconditional.

      Anonymous

what kind of fantasy land would people need to grow up in to believe this? parents are human beings just like everyone else and they wont be motivated to shit without any reward incentive. if you dont make your parents feel good in some way, then they wont care about you. theyll only do the bare minimum to keep you alive, like a pet theyve grown bored of. "love" is just "wow, im getting so much personal fulfillment out of this thing! my life is making so much sense now!" and it only lasts as long as youre making sense to them, being relatable to them. if you stray too far from what you parent is like, how they think, they will stop "loving" you. theres no such thing as unconditional human behavior

        Anonymous

there is no such thing as unconditional human behavior, but the brain is designed in a way to make parents automatically relate to/care for their kids on some level. it's just not all that strong of a pull so it can be overridden by strong embarrassment or disgust if the kid goes against your social programming.

          Anonymous

thats just not true. yes some parents care about their children when theyre born, but that doesnt mean it is automatic and not a complicated process which depends on a lot of other things. i'd say in modern times most parents raise their kids not because they "care" about them in some emotional way, rather its just to maintain their social status and positive view of themselves. its responsibility, a chore. and the brain isnt designed for anything, it evolved in an environment, one which is completely different from the one we're in today

            Anonymous

i think it's automatic to some degree. just like how (most) other animals instinctively care for their young and grieve for them if they die, i think there's a similar instinct in humans, an emotional attachment that can't really be broken. honestly i think this attachment can backfire easily; a parent who merely doesn't like trannies might be overwhelmed with guilt and shame if their kid ended up one because they perceive it as "failing" to raise them properly. also, readily resorting to violence and abuse in the name of proper education.

social perceptions obviously play a part here but i don't think they tell the full story, if it was just a matter of social pressure then they would cut the kid loose much more easily. seeing it as maintaining their own positive self perception i think cuts closer to the truth but in a way it's really not much different from instinctive unconditional love; your brain makes you feel bad or good depending on how you treat them, regardless of whether they materially benefit you. the question of nature vs nurture there is way too muddy to draw a clear conclusion.

10000000% true. My depression was at a treatable point 2 or 3 years ago, but my dad said I shouldn't get help for it and since I was a dumbass teenager I listened. After 2 hospitalizations for suicidal tendencies he stopped talking to me except for basic check ins. Parents will absolutely treat you like an unwanted pet once you become a burden.

It's the opposite of fantasy land. I always thought that because my dad was abusive. "I only hurt you because I love you" type of shit. Essentially gaslighted me into thinking his love was unconditional. But it was never enough because unless I was like him I'd not be good enough. And I could not be like him, physically, mentally, but he never saw that. Or he did and just ignored it. And then he'd try to straigthen me out because he "loved me" and that's a parent's "duty" and I actually believed it. Still do if I don't pay attention, it was literally beaten into my brain

Lived a similar reality. Unironically 95%+ of people on this planet are incapable of properly raising a child. 'Fantasy land' anon is probably one of those parents themselves and in denial.

most kids are born to parents who were
    - too stupid to do birth control
    - thought having a kid would save their relationship
    - thought breeding would give them life satisfaction

your job as a child is to serve emotional needs of your parents, you owe them for life, you mean nothing unless you are used to make your parents feel better about themselves

It's specific because it what I went through with my mom, it's how she treated me.
I was a repper who ticked all the "successful young man" boxes, mom still told me I was a failure because I chose to work remotely instead of working an official day job in a third world country. When I was boymoding and growing out my hair, she said it made me look ugly.
Once I started passing she suddenly shut the fuck up and started acting heartbroken, even though she knew I had long standing issues with suicidal intention and substance abuse, and transitioning pulled me out of that.
Like 3 months later she started saying "wow, you're really pretty, must be your mother's genes!". Even compliments she gives me are about her her her. Stopped bothering with her once she attempted to use me as her emotional scapegoat on my fucking birthday.

well i wouldn't be surprised if she is a repping ftm or a repressed lesbian, won't even admit she was a lesbian, said she was just "experimenting", yeah like i'm gonna believe someone is gonna risk being gay in eastern europe in the 80s just to "experiment". she used to like hanging out with male gays, like when they'd go hiking and such, so i doubt she is homophobic when it comes to male gays.
i should probably mention she is 53 and she was my fwb.

I think this post may be a little exaggerated (looking at the chair breaking over the head part) but there are some really cruel people who have children who then proceed to abuse and neglect such children. Just bc someone's blood doesn't mean they'll automatically care about you or your well-being. Hell even some parents who care fall short

abuse and neglect isnt done by "cruel" people, its done by normal people. the issue isnt the people who have kids, its the cancer that is modern society. compared to before the agricultural revolution, parenting is more difficult, time consuming and less emotionally fulfilling. its virtually impossible to not give your child CPTSD nowadays.
