It's my favorite of theirs as well. I know the whole story of the antagonism between Lemmy and Robbo and how it was a disastrous time for the band, but it did produce their most distinct album.
I'm old enough to be that cool uncle that saw Motorhead when Another Perfect Day came out, and let me tell you, the fans HATED IT!.
However, if you ask me, I think the hat wast baseless.
I think some of it had to do with "Robbo" and his attitude towards the music, and the fans in general. (He was thrown out of the band after the 1983 world tour) but this is really on par with all the classic Motorhead albums with Fast Eddie. I also think too many people wanted Ace of Spades part two, and this was a let down for those fans.
If Motorhead ever put out a bad album during their career, it would be Orgasmatron, but there are quite a few good songs that save the album from being a total stinker, and Another Perfect Day certainly mops the floor with that.
Of course, nothing will ever beat the original classic power trio line up, but Another Perfect Day didn't deserve all the hate it got back in the day.
If Robbo had agreed to play more old material on tour then he would have gone down with the fans a lot better and the general vibe would have been a lot more positive. Instead he was all "i'm better than you guys and your shitty music" which was never going to end well.
It is good. It's by far their most melodic and accessible which makes it unique among their discography which quite frankly gets really samey after a while, but for me it's my third favorite
>1. Overkill >2. Orgasmatron >3. Another Perfect Day >4. Ace of Spades >5. Bomber >6. Iron Fist
And those are pretty much the ones I listen to regularly enough to rank, I've heard every Motorhead album but I don't revisit any as much as those 6
I'll listen to the odd song from most Motorhead albums occasionally.
Another Perfect Day - I'll listen to all of them no problem.
It has another dimension all the other records lack. Robbo was the only one who tried something different on a motorhead album... with the possible exception of the 1916 title track, I guess.
Orgasmatron (the track) has the best Motorhead lyrics ever written though. That whole album was unforatunatly just overcompensation for the lack of Robbo though really. Plus the producer trying to 'make his mark'. Motorhead always rejected most attempts at innovation, ultimately. They never quite realised how sticking to the cavemen mentality just can't work out long term. But of course they were pretty based for just simply not giving a shit.

It clearly did though, even though I don't listen to a lot of their discography very much they remained fairly successful and high profile for an old band
Motorhead is also a band who just so much had "their thing" you know, it's kind of hard to imagine much experimentation beyond what little they did. Lemmy's voice isn't suited for like pop hooks so I couldn't imagine them going full MTV, anything proggy or experimental would be way too off brand, you could maybe see them going into more aggressive music in the wake of thrash but even that would feel off cause it would lose the sense of cool, dirty "rock and roll" attitude that they are synonymous with

they had a real musician in the band for once
Who turned out to be a total jerk, and got kicked out of the band immediately.

Good choice, personally for me I prefer the self titled, but thats cause I prefer Punk/Hard Rock over Metal, not a Metal guy
agreed, I think there worst album is probably "We are Motorhead", Orgasmatron is alright.
I think everyone likes Motorhead, Punks, Metalheads, Hard Rockers, etc. Unironically the only band for everyone that doesnt suck.
If you like punk, then you owe it to yourself to listen to On Parole, if you haven't already...
New album when?
They're too busy playing shows in Hell.
Well, the original line up reunion is complete.
If there is a Hell, Motorhead are more than likely raising it!
I love how even death metal elitists admit that Motorhead were based as fuck.

That’s not overkill
What an earworm this song is
Best APD song along with Rock It
Agreed-
Controversial opinion: "Rock It" is not a bad song
Rock It is great. Cool lyrics and the keys make it feel like retro feel, it's sick.
