You better drive it. Cars are not like other items where the less you used it, the engine and suspension components will stay almost brand new. You have to these things to keep things from rotting, rusting and ceasing. Reason you see commercial vehicle with 300k miles still running with few problems. And 8k miles 5 year vehicle with many problems. Engines are meant to run to lubricate and keep everything working fine.

That's believing in gold standards and a countries military defeat. The USA has no military competition. And no one will challenge it. We go as far as reassuring Taiwanese we have their backs and supplying a ton of military weapons to Ukraine for use against Russia. No one dares question or challenge us. >Unironically that's where Asian bugmen still seem to excel. They're the only ones still making utilitarian vehicles.
Depends. Asian automakers have particular advantages that allow them to do that.

Japanese automakers have always been particularly resourceful with their engineering, so the packaging tends to be tidier. Korean automakers aren't just automakers, but part of larger conglomerates. Hyundai has the advantage of a nearly vertically integrated steel industry that produces most of the ultra high strength steel for the upper half of the auto market. They also own part of Kia to the point where they share platforms. Also, a lot of the high strength steel for cars and trucks is Korean or US/Candadian. We'll never trust the Chinese or Indians to do that right.

They're going to dominate the hybrid and EV sphere too. Toyota already dominates hybrid tech, nearly all hybrid tech is licensed or derived from Toyota's Hybrid Synergy Drive. Aside from Tesla (Panasonic), automakers will answer to the Koreans for batteries through Samsung SDI, LG Energy, and SK On. Koreans in particular really like to vertically and horizontally integrate their spheres of influence until they're the only game in town. Again, the alternative is Panasonic, which is busy supplying Tesla, or some Chinese supplier who will definitely cause a vehicle recall after 5% of the cars that roll off the line catch fire and explode.

            >I will never not be mad that affordable trucks don't exist and retards drop 80k on a truck they never actually haul anything with.
It's a status symbol now, literally a money burning pissing contest. It seems every demographic has their status symbol car. Subhumans like high trim German cars, Americans like farm tools with a tuxedo shoved up its ass, etc. Normies desire luxury for the sake of luxury.

                >At least work vans aren't all super cucky yet.
Oh they're trying. Diesel in particular is getting really put through the wringer with emissions systems failures being the sore point. The diesels are fantastic until they break, and then any cost savings disappear as the service costs skyrocket

It's so bad that Mercedes-Benz offers the gas powered M274 motor for Sprinter owners who don't want to deal with the headache of having a limp-home diesel Sprinter and the nearest MB Van dealer being 500 miles away.

Not sure with the GM 2.7L turbodiesel yet. The owners seem happy with it, but it's not certain whether it's up to the task of constant idling, stop-start cycles, and general working abuse that is expected with American commercial vehicles. The biggest obstacle to a quality American commercial vehicle is its ability to tolerate neglect. Americans treat cars very badly in general.

You are witnessing the filter effect. Vehicles that are still on the road after 15 years or over 100k miles have been well maintained or were the cream of the crop of their production run. I own a truck and an SUV from '98 and '05 that run great and are cosmetically okay. Bought them both almost 10 years ago. The things that go wrong at that age are electromechanical or bearings/seals. If you have a complete socket set and a few torque wrenches you can solve most of these problems. I wish more anon would get into working on cars. It's a fun hobby

            >It's a fun hobby
It saves a fuck ton of time and money too. I don't have to pay for a mechanic or queue up on his backlog. I can usually borrow or rent out a garage for any bigger work. I don't believe richfags when they say their time is worth too much not to do basic services by themselves. They have to hand over their car to some underpaid lube monkey who wants nothing to do with their car.

I think the only thing I need to do is spark plugs. Car is starting to misfire every few months. Spark plugs are probably 120k miles old though, amazing how long the iridiums last on older engines.

If new, low tech shitboxes like the Nissan Versa, Mitsu Mirage, Kia Rio and Soul, base models of other makes etc... start selling like hotcakes because new cars are extremely fucking gay then the trend might reverse. I think as the permarecession continues, more DIYers will start taking better care of their vehicles too (it's not particularly hard to do most basic maintenance) leading to a drop in overall gayness in new cars too. >Well fucking hell I'm looking for a used Sienna AWD, any other minivans out there with AWD/4WD that's as reliable as the Sienna?
A newer AWD Sienna in XLE, SE, Limited, or Platinum trim. LE Siennas get the shit beaten out of them since those are family beaters. Limiteds and Platinums tend to be bought by rich families and old boomers with tablet addicted grandchildren. You're going to have to wait that one out because I'm waiting for one as well.

2015+ has reinforcement to pass Driver Side Small Offset Overlap.

2017-2018 had a recall for the 8 speed, the naggers over at the factory in MI didn't torque down a bolt properly so the transmission had an issue with shaking and vibrating uncontrollably. Don't know how many got fixed but people who know avoid 2017-2018 model Toyota Highlanders and Siennas with them. It's like 5-6 years by now so I don't know if they'll honor the warranty work for the TSB.

2019-2020 has the fixed transmission and the 2GR-FKS, you won't really feel 296hp unless you really rev it out, they recalibrated the throttle for economy and the transmission likes to hunt for gears if you're heavy on the throttle. Use manual mode if you are.

2021-2024 Siennas are all hybrids and will continue to be hybrids. Despite the lower power output, they are in practice faster than all Siennas 2016 and older. 2017-2020 Siennas are barely faster. Instant electric torque is magical for pulling a heavy vehicle.

I've been looking at used ones, I need one for my family and I like the hybrid aspect.

              Anonymous

If you need one right now, it's better to shop around for a dealer that will give you MSRP. The used market is full of used up Siennas that are selling for MSRP, ready to settle down to another sucker. Why bother playing that game?

I would say that the 4th gen Sienna hybrid is an excellent choice. They went conservative on R&D this time around with NiMH battery packs, so if you own this thing long enough to refurbish the battery, it should be nearly identical to a Prius battery service, which is well documented on YouTube. The Sienna was already known for its longevity, and now with an uprated and upsized HSD drivetrain, it's got the potential to be even more reliable since the Prius is known to be a very economical and long lasting taxi candidate. This is in essence a Prius XXL.

Compared to the 3rd gen, the only reasons you'd want to stick with the older vehicle are a removable 2nd row or you like the V6 enough to eat through $1.5-$2k more fuel per year @ 15k mileage per year.

What year/make euro car you got? in most cases if its any brand after 2009 youre a retard.

        2009 Audi
Like I said, I let my family pressure me into it. I was fresh out of college, had a great new job, and was ready to get my first real car after driving a fucking 1980 Plymouth Horizon all through high school and college. Didn’t do deep enough research on the car - turns out the Germans engineered a complete shitbox - bad seals everywhere, had to replace the timing chain, serpentine belt, spark plug assembly, all the oil sensors, the fuel pump, the turbo, the list goes in. Yeah, some maintenance and repair is always going to be needed for any car, but I’ve averaged about $1.5-2K on it a year. I could have probably bought a new car with what I’ve spent keeping muh zuperiur jermun engineerink running. The car is in excellent condition and I’ve kept meticulous care of it, but I’ll unironically get more for it if I disassemble it and sell it for parts because nobody wants the actual car.

The new car and used car market got fucked during covid because of trump money, plus carvana and CarMax and.wall street funny money. Prices are way out of whack and need to correct but dealers are sitting on overpriced inventory, new and used. It seems like a buyers strike right now. Thought my night vision was going bad but it was just all the blue light. You're not wrong. Work at a dealership and 99% of problems with new cars it's always some fucking stupid electrical or software issue due to all the needless technology they cram in the new vehicles. The only people I see who can afford new cars are old boomers who spend 100k on new luxury vehicles they have no idea how to use nor do they need them. I always laugh when brand new lincolns come in all dented to shit, with 10k of navigation and touch screens with the interior covered in paper maps the boomers use still

        Anonymous

        >it's always some fucking stupid electrical or software issue due to all the needless technology they cram in the new vehicles
It gets even better. High bandwidth CANBUS protocol is extremely voltage sensitive since everything uses PWM to communicate. If a module fails, everything downstream of it fails too. Even shoddy wiring can affect voltage, so some issues can't be fixed because it got cost-cut too much in design and production. If the engineers are dogshit (*cough* GM), something as simple as losing electrical ground will cause power steering, infotainment, A/C, and all high electrical load devices to fail, and can even do dumb things like induce misfires because the ignition system can't generate the 30k-40k volts to kill expensive iridium spark plugs since fuel economy requirements have encouraged automakers to create insanely hot spark and combustion.

BMW and Mercedes-Benz are particularly bad as well, but that's mainly because when things break, it has to get shipped from Europe and that's a lot of money and downtime. VAG is a punishment all its own with their inexplicably brittle plastics.

i dont fucking want blind spot monitoring. i dont need radar cruise control. i dont even want a backup camera. just give me a fucking car with AC and isnt duller to drive than a fucking magic carpet

Best way to do that is a commercial vehicle if you want it new. Everything is optional.

if youve got a rec on a commercial vehicle, im open to suggestions. Checked out fords and their msrps were easily 30% more than the consumer lineup

            Anonymous

Honestly I can't on the new end, because they're really tough value propositions these days. Vanlifers absolutely skyrocketed the price of commercial vans with the idea of a glamourous life of being homeless, trucks aren't that much better either with overlanders doing the same thing. The longstanding platforms have inflated to the moon.

Also, I think 2018+ means that you will get the backup camera no matter what. It's federally mandated.

The only ones that I haven't seen go completely insane are stuff like government fleet Suburbans/Tahoes and Nissan NV vans. However, Suburbans are going up in price since the new gen no longer has 2500 or 3500 spec ever since moving to independent rear suspension only, and people have a bitter taste about the Nissan Titan's abysmal reliability, which doesn't necessarily translate over to the NV. However, it is discontinued and does not receive reliable repair support.

      >At what point will $1000 break consumers causing a repo wave?
Already has. Problem is that repos won't cause vehicle prices to crash, because the cars that are flooding the auctions are junk cars.

It requires a flood of trade-ins to crash the overall auto market. People aren't trading in for new cars, and it takes a few years for new cars to crash in price because dealers using floorplan loans can defer it for a while until the bank gets pissed and calls the note to liquidate it at ANY price. Banks would rather get money than take their car back. That's the stalemate that's happening right now.

So what is your prediction on the outcome of this stalemate?

Depends on the duration and severity of the recession. Cars aren't houses but you can look at the housing market right now. It has the lowest sales in decades due to increased rates and car affordability is just as bad.

We will see a stalemate dead market for a while until 1 of 2 things happens:

          1. Massive crash as people race for the door to unload toxic assets

          2. Government intervention and artificial supply restrictions to keep prices high

It's pathetic really. People are like. Wow used cars so expensive! Wow gas so expensive! Wow food so expensive! Wow house so expensive! Thank goodness Biden passed the inflation reduction act (note: it just increases inflation)

The Amerikan dollar is worthless and in its death throes. AmeriKKKa will fall and people will not even understand as their money is devalued 2x, 3x, 4x. They will not fight back. They won't do shit.

yeah, I think it will this summer into next year. I think there's basically a buyer's strike, plus recession, but the market is so fucking hosed it'll take some kind of big event to knock prices down to something reasonable, like down 30-50%. Carvana bankruptcy could do it--but they might not go bankrupt. Car maker going bankrupt could help. Big wave of defaults on car loans could help... It'll all add up. But it might be the last time for a deal when it does happen because the feds want to wreck the ICE car market.

we are basically being raped both by inflation due to an incompetent government/fed while entering a modernized version of the CAFE efficiency standards of the 70's. manufacturers have to meet these new government mandates on emissions and mpg, so we have cars with garbage cvt's or expensive 6,7,8, or even 10 speed transmissions. add direct injection on top of that, and you have cars that are more expensive to buy and maintain and are less reliable than the vehicles of a decade ago.

if you want a new, reliable car for less than 20k, your only option is the 5 speed nissan versa.

We are mainly being raped because the FED and all the central banks around the world are exponentially inflating the money supply.
