they're AWD in most markets/specs. For some reason the US got a poverty spec FF SOHC version which is why you'll see people here spout that they're FWD all the fucking time.

iirc even the domestic DOHC versions are still FF unless you got a VR4 which are rapidly becoming unicorns. >car developed jointly while diamond star motors is a thing >for the most part, fuck the US out of the proper version of the car

We did get the Stealth RT though >All white Chryslers got white powder coated wheels for free at the time
One of the best looking cars of that era. I was in the back of one in high school when some dumb girl drove it off the side of a snowy rode into a ditch and totaled it.
why the fuck did they make it FWD and AWD optional instead of just fucking RWD from the start, i mean what the fuck. every other Japanese halo car was RWD. even traditionally front-drive Honda had their RWD NSX. i thought maybe they were afraid of cannibalizing FTO sales, but the FTO came later and is ALSO TRANSVERSE FWD just like the GTO. WHY
Every Mitsubishi drivetrain that wasn't an SUV was tranny FWD/AWD unless I'm forgetting some no-name model from the 90s. A company that already had /no money/ couldn't afford to design a new car platform is what I'm guessing, cheap fucks.

I think the only option for RWD they had was if they continued to keep it on an updated Starion platform.
they're just different driving styles
fwd rotates with inertia
rwd rotates with torque
rwd is better for high power cars
fwd makes the most of smaller engines
Platform sharing. If you find the original launch-day interviews the lead engineer basically admitted it was shared with a Diamante in order to bring cost down and a number of things were compromised as a result. For example there's a ton of overhang in the body in front of the front wheels. The car in theory can be RWD by default, if you pull the front driveshafts and make the center diff fully locked it will be RWD. The problem is it's so front-heavy that the car will never have good traction. Also, the center diff is just a dumb viscous lockup. Front-rear speed differential causes it to lock up and that's it. So it cannot actively decide against transferring power to the front wheels.
Personally for this reason I think anyone who seriously compares a 3000GT to a GTR is just coping. The GTR is an RWD car by default that can choose to lock up the transfer case to send power to the front wheels. The 3000GT is always 45/55 split in static situations. The only way you can send more torque to the rear is if the front is already understeering and then you lock up the center diff to force more power through the rear (and the front, but it's already slipping anyways). The Evo uses the same concept as the 3000GT but with a computer controlled center diff lockup and a torque vectoring rear diff that can use the outside rear tire in a corner to initiate oversteer even if the front wheels are not slipping.

You've 100% described a Subaru
This is true, but Subaru instead chooses a longitudinal boxer 4 so the engine is fully forward of the transmission instead of on top of/beside it like the transverse layout
It's neat because it has all that shit (twin turbos, active aero, AWD, 4 wheel steering, etc.) but I would never own one because the idea of playing a game of find the spark plugs on it sounds terrifying and any electrical issue would basically total it.
>go to change sparkplugs >remove upper manifold
That's it. That's all there is to it. People who fret over changing plugs on modern transverse V6s are wrenchlets.
The Evo has AYC/ACD/etc that helps it turn. The 3000GT only has a viscous center LSD and a viscous rear LSD. Just not a particularly good combination that makes a car already prone to understeer off throttle also prone to understeer on throttle.
It's excessively pigfat, extremely nose heavy, shit to work on, and about as unreliable as it gets.
Other than looking good, I can't think of many positives to say about it.
Only cars I've personally seen break the stock crank more than a dozen times in different cars across it's entire age range. Pretty cars but too bad they're absolute trash.
Dont like my stealth that much. Its not smooth driving kek and people are always in my way. I should have bought a miata but the stealth was so cheap i couldnt pass. Gonna fix it till its good for another 60k miles and sell it.
Fuck you homosexual
>t. has a non-operational, not-a-VR4 3000GT
Mitsubishi: Sorry bro, we gotta focus on manufacturing ductless mini splits.
Mitsubishi: Cars? I haven’t made money from those in a longgggg time….
Kek
OP here. The point of pic is to show Mitsubishi at its peak. It doesn't and will never get any better than this.
>fail wheel drive
>peak
The GTO's rear wheel drive, too.
this is bait
Really? Well then front wheel drive has never looked so good.

Mitsubishi peak is 4x4, and it was damn good at it.
blocks your ... ack!

No it didnt, but they sure didnt do anything to prevent it.
i motion to sacrifice subaru for the return of mitsubishi

Good question, I swear the troonsverse layout it's one of the things that held it back from becoming legendary AF instead of just legendary.
Same platform as the Diamante

unfortunately mitsi seemed determined to forget the starion a year or so after it launched
because FWD is just better
RWD is an oldfag meme that reddit fell for

Ever since I was a young lad playing GT I've desired an FTO, then I was rudely informed by google that it's a FWD shitbox.
mit su bitchy amiright?
my dad had one, it fucking exploded and he got an FTO after
subuaru deserved worse
Everyone spergs over evos but shits on 3000GTs
Its not the drivetrain, its the extra 400 kg of shit 3000GTs carry around
It's neat because it has all that shit (twin turbos, active aero, AWD, 4 wheel steering, etc.) but I would never own one because the idea of playing a game of find the spark plugs on it sounds terrifying and any electrical issue would basically total it.

Never own a Subaru then
This.
>first job for sparkplug removal is removing front wheels
To be fair though, if you're at the point with a subaru where you're replacing sparks you might as well tear the rest of it apart for repairs anyway.

Interesting. Given how strong the 6G7 bottom end is in their 4x4s, especially with the girdle maincap design of the 6G7 family

>reply pic doesn't have pop ups either
icba
Now hear me out I've never been one for lowering cars, but dropping that thing and inch or two would work wonders on the overall look.
BC coilovers are on back order, 265/35/18’s are on the way as well
