The Tibetan Book of the Dead

Has anyone read this? I’d love to get some feedback. I asked in another thread but I figured I’d widen my net

It's not an actual book. It's a collection of prayers, religious writings and one play (The Masked Drama of Rebirth). It is worth a read for spiritual value.

I have, yeah. It was interesting but I didn't find it as insightful as I had hoped going into it.

      This, basically.

I'm a couple sections in. I lost heart at the one that's just a list of deities and where they're sitting relative to you and what they're holding and what they represent to you.
I just haven't got the memory for enlightenment, I guess.

Typically, monks would chant those things every single day in the morning until they died. The common man in Buddhist countries wasnt expected to memorize any of that. If you leave the book without having memorized every single color and its relation to enlightenemnt that isnt a big problem because that is stuff which a select few were chosen for.

In the bardo you're seven times smarter so it's easier to remember stuff after you die

It's good for realizing that the post-death state is one of urgency, where the choices you make will determine whether you wake up from the dream or fall into slumber again. As for the details, they're probably inaccurate or have been tampered with, though I'm sure there are nuggets of truth within.

Yes, they are highly inaccurate. I strongly doubt after you die you see a hallway of people fucking and you choose your own parents from the line up.

If anyone can post some diverse passages to give me an idea, that would be much appreciated. Is the book similar to the Rg Veda?

Read the Masked Drama of Rebirth. It’s a play within the book where the spirits measure pebbles (representing good and bad deeds) on a counter to decide who goes where in the afterlife.
