Doesn't Russia have an equivalent to the USGS so you can download maps and print them out? I always carry local topos when I'm out in the woods hiking. My GPS is like the earlier version of that one without any maps at all, just the trail of breadcrumbs and waypoint list.
Yes I think I can get paper maps and use Garmin for GPS coordinates. I think I'll download all maps for my laptop, and load it to Garmin when necessary, but it's too heavy.
