The Fiio M3k is the worst mp3 player, possibly ever created.

The Fiio M3k is the worst mp3 player, possibly ever created.
Not only does it have many interface inconveniences, but after a while it will crash and reboot, no matter what, maybe a memory leak.
Folder view doesn't' sort album tracks alphabetically, or by track tag, after some research it seems it sorts by the date in which the files were inserted into the device.
The dedicated play/pause button only works when you're at the "now playing" screen, if you use it in other parts of the interface it works as an Enter/Select.
Long information scrolls horizontally like 1 pixel a second. Not only does it take forever for it to scroll enough to read, but sometimes there's not enough time since it enters some locked state.
There's no search function afaik, I have to scroll long times to find an artist/album.
Entering some albums will cause a crash.
I've had it not turn on after several tries, even though I knew the battery could not possibly be drained. After more attempts it turned on. I don't trust the battery indicator anymore.
Unlocking it can take several seconds sometimes because it freezes for a bit loading something.
I tried putting Rockbox on it and it's actually a worse experience.
Some good things:
The looks are not that bad.
The battery can last a long time.
It plays music, sounds ok.
Cheap, around $60.
But I wouldn't buy it again.

I don't understand why you wouldn't just use a smartphone in 2022 to play your locally stored music, or better yet just get spotify lmao

no headphone jack and I don't like my music being interrupted by notifications.

        >no headphone jack
Many phones still have headphones jacks today. And you can also just get a 3$ adapter.
        >I don't like my music being interrupted by notifications.
Just silence them? Or use do not disturb? Are you moronic?

No it doesn't. By default it only blocks notifications. Are you a moron too?

You can't buy them anymore, any surviving examples are scalped up to hell and have degraded batteries and lead-free solder just waiting to develop hairline cracks and render your shit an expensive dated paperweight.

Agreed, any device in the retired LGVxx lineup BTFOs almost all chinese chinkware (and even the japshit) DAPs, while also being budget friendly.

Sorry I didn't read your blogpost. If your goal is mp3s just use your phone. If your goal is FLAC, just use an older phone that still has an SD card.

i found good mp3 player from sony. supposedly supports up to 500gb mini sds

I unironically used PSP as an mp3 player. If you underclock the CPU via custom firmware (since playing music doesn't require much computing power) the battery will last forever.

sounds like quite a few of your issues could be solved with rockbox

I don't think there exists a rock box port that isn't for a device discontinued over 10 years ago.

I literally own an m3k with rockbox on it.

My rockbox literally downgraded (upgraded?) on its own for some weird reason.
It simply booted a new different UI one day.
It's so bad on that device I prefer the Fiio native one.
