The Clip was trash.. until Rockbox came along. Why hasn't there been a real alternative since then?
Good things this player had: small, very light, plastic (zero worries if dropped), battery life, boot time, good sound from included earbuds.
Good thing Rockbox added: Flac/ogg/aac support, usable EQ, "better" UI
I am tired of buying second hand clips, and the market is full of different chinese-branded devices which are the same. They also have gimmicks such as: large ipa touchscreen, aluminum metal body, Bluetooth, and other non-sense that plays no part on: audio quality, file support, and portability.
I left out pricing out, because more $ does not necessarily translate into a better player imo.
Are there real alternatives out? Just one.
I'm annoyed at the volume skip bug in Rockbox.
They still do updates but never fixed that shit for 15 years.
Because everyone just uses their cellphones as music players now.
I started using mine again in my car since buying a new phone that doesn't have a headphone jack.
I use a bluetooth receptor that has an audio jack socket. It also has near infinite battery duration.

You will never be happy, keep buying clips
I want one of these with 128gb storage.
i still use my trusty iriver h10. with rockbox.
the sound is better than a shit smartphone, i cannot cut on that.
normally any with microSD and bluetooth; ( because you need an amplifier or a car audio with BT) should be good.
they are inferior, they listen to pop, podcast or rap. and don't own their music. you must be able to store flac or mp3s on your device, not a terminal.
Has neither, unfortunately. 🙁 I really like the form factor and the monochrome blue OLED screen. I that the yellow on the Sansas.
These old Sony e507s were good too.
I found one of these in a closet at my work, attached to an analog phone system that had been turned off over 4 years ago. It was still on and playing, battery still worked fine when I unplugged it.
Cheap pixel/nexus phone.
I dug my clip zip with rockbox (which is mostly the same thing) from a drawer it's sat in for years and I was heartbroken to find out it sounds worse than my phone's jack, same exact files too.
It was heartbreaking because this little champ got me through a time when I'd ride the bus for 6+ hours at least once a week.
Tragically non-enthusiast DAPs that don't cost a lot of money are obsolete and with the exception of expendable storage (which some phones still have) and having a superior battery life that doesn't come at the expense of everything else you use a phone for there's nothing it does better than phones nowadays.
Especially if you get something like a FiiO BTR3K.
great song.
my clip+ died and my clip zip got washer'd
> What's the advantage to using Rockbox over the built in software?
> Does Rockbox have working bluetooth support?
> Is it easy to revert to the factory software if it doesn't work well?
Was thinking of getting a Sansa Clip Sport, which I assume is the same as the one in the OP.
What a piece of shit chink device.
