if it were up to me, bootlickers would be castrated, publicly flayed, left to rot out in the sun without food or water for 10 days straight, have all of their relatives murdered on a livestream on a screen right in front of them, then finally they would be chained to an anvil and thrown into the ocean

ironically because they're too moronic to understand how their own economic system works, not realizing that by "accepting it" they're actively making it worse for themselves

That's what people in general don't understand. If you comply, it gets worse. If you give them an inch, they will take a mile. etc. But no matter how many times history is repeating itself, people just won't learn from their past mistakes.
If everyone, and I mean everyone stopped buying cars for 1 month, then not only would Stealership markups disappear, no, they would even go below MSRP just like they're doing here in germany. Especially with brands that don't sell that well like Lexus. If the MSRP is, say, 60K, they will make you a so called ''house Offer'' for 54K.
Off-topic but I have to say it. Same thing with the entire corona thing. If everyone stopped complying for 3 days, then it would end, instantly, and we would still have our economy and normal life. But yeah. People like to comply and behave. What they don't understand is that the government won't reward them, on the contrary, they Will take more and more.

Buy cars from companies that don't use Dealers and do direct sales at MSRP.
Join owners lobbying groups that seek to break the Government mandated monopoly that the Dealer cartel has.

There's no reason why I shouldn't be able to go on to Ford.com and buy a car at MSRP and have it delivered directly to me just like I can with any other product.

    >but dealers provide useful services like repair!
Dealers distort the market towards less repairable vehicles. Strong Right to Reapir laws need to be passed, and all repair information should be published and generally available.

California's recently passed a law mandating minimum standards for information disclosure and repairability.

      >There's no reason why I shouldn't be able to go on to Ford.com and buy a car at MSRP and have it delivered directly to me just like I can with any other product.
      There is one big reason:
there aren't enough cars to go around to meet demand. how do you propose you solve that issue?

        Anonymous

Waitlist. I'd rather wait a year or two to get the car than pay 80% over MSRP. You can still have dealers selling used cars if someone needs one immediately, but for new cars I should be able to buy directly from the factory, for MSRP.

then you'll just have scalpers who put themselves at the top of waiting lists for every model years in advance just to flip the cars.

That's when you limit the number of cars people can order in a set timeframe, or even ban bad actors from buying new cars.
Instead of essentially making the scalpers the only way to buy cars.

they'll get in through relatives, new LLC's, etc. and the manufacturers will always be a step behind. ninety grand is at stake here, that's more than enough to live on for a year for the vast majority of people.

if the dealers don't make it up it just goes to people who flip it and sell it for the same price. its called supply and demand. how else do you determine who deserves access to a scarce good? randomly draw numbers? whoever was first in line? lmao we aren't picking who gets to go to recess first. its time to graduate from a gradeschool mentality.

btw i fricking loathe dealerships for all the dishonest shit they do. i will probably never buy a new car again (and I let the manufacturer know I will never buy one of their cars again for letting their brand be attached to such scam artists). but dealer markups are honestly not the problem.

  10. 2 years ago

The best way to frick is to not purchase from them and keep posting pictures like this everywhere on the internet. Make sure you include the dealers name in the photo as well

Easy, don't buy new vehicles. You won't win your stupid dream of beating the man (are you even an adult?) but if you can afford a new ride then you're rich so why would you care about markup?

c**ting about new car prices is like c**ting about fentanyl prices. You have money to waste in the first place.

A free market includes scalping. Feel sad you weren't smart enough to play.

      >if you can afford a new ride then you're rich so why would you care about markup?
There is a massive difference between being comfortably middle class, making 500k a year, and being rich making 500k an hour.
Average sale price of a new car is 40k in part because of markups but that's still affordable to a lot of lower class people making under 100k.

If it wasn't for markups there are new cars you could but for under $20k.

No one is “making” $500k a year. There is basically 90 percent of the population making $32,000 or less, then 8 percent doing a higher level of waging for slightly more. Then there’s a huge gap. There’s no middle class. There isn’t even a middle income anymore. You’re either poor and scraping by or insanely rich
