I had to learn this lesson the hard way with losing weight but it also applies to saving money. There will always be another excuse (someone's birthday/wedding/vacation/whatever) to splurge (on eating food in my case or spending money in your case). "Just this once," we tell ourselves. It takes a broad scope to realize this lie.

This is a good point, but what are we saving money or losing weight FOR? indulging in the benefits of your discipline is not the same as giving into your undisciplined desires.

to use the weight loss analogy this is like getting in shape enough to being to run a marathon. the work it took to get you to that point is what enabled you to do this you wanted to do, and doing it is not betraying yourself.

unfortuantely in this case it costs a lot of money, but if there's a will there's a way.

You should really impress upon your dad that the market is most likely about to crater, and covid lock downs are coming back anyway. You could spend that money, have it locked up in tickets and hotels, just to never go anyway. All you can do is make the choice as clear to them as possible after that it isn't your money or guilt.

you gotta figure out how to make it so they can go. there's enough time between now and next summer to figure it out. it won't be easy, and maybe you personally need to help, but robbing people of these moments is like robbing them of the meaning of life.

50% of LULZ are terminally online misanthropic baggots who gamble on rigged meme tokens because they think getting rich will let them score revenge on the society which has (rightly) shunned them. be careful following the anti-travel advice from people addicted to fast casual dining and video games.

you gotta figure it out OP. if they can get a side hustle job that pays them as little as $750 a month for the next ten months that should be enough for each of them to go. you buy the plane ticket with the savings then go into work mode to pay it off.

Just visualize them as gainfully employed. You can put words into other people's mouth with your mind. When you see them they will say exactly what you visualized them saying. Imagine what they would say if they solved their financial problems and catch the mood and hold onto it. The Golden Rule is "do unto others and you would have done unto you" well, you wouldn't want other people imagining the worst for you, would you? See your family members as really small in your mind, the size they are in the palm of your hand. Take in a big breath and when you exhale, blow their problems away into the wind.

Why would attending the wedding break the bank? Round trip flights from the east coast to Paris are like $500. There's no reason this trip would use more than $3k out of their savings if planned properly. If they want to go to the wedding they should go.

    >Mortgage
Why are so many people in LULZ israeliteed into legitimately bad deals? Tell your parents to fucking rent at this point. And why are you managing their finances to begin with? All three of you are adults. If they can't manage their money that's their problem and they're not going to learn consequences by having their lapdog son do everything for them.
    >20k in savings
    >torn between saving for ??? and letting them see a wedding that's once in a lifetime
Anon.. a trip to France and amenities does not cost 20k.. and what the hell are you even trying to get your parents to save for? They already had you, there's nothing else for them to save for. From the sound of it they clearly already have jobs of some kind. If your parents wanna blow their money on short term stuff then there's nothing you can do to change their temperaments, and playing purse keeper won't solve that. You are making your own life and their lives more miserable by trying to control problems that neither of you have the capacity to solve.

If a choice had to be made between your mom going on the expensive trip and maintaining their financial stability, the best decision, from a financial standpoint, would be to prioritize their long-term financial well-being. It's essential to preserve the savings and emergency fund, especially if it prevents them from living paycheck to paycheck, as that can lead to financial stress and insecurity.

However, this is a deeply personal decision that should ideally be made through open and empathetic communication with your parents. It's crucial to consider their feelings and desires while also ensuring that the family's financial foundation remains secure. Exploring alternative ways to fulfill your mom's travel aspirations without compromising their financial stability could be a compromise to consider.

he said it's 20k AUD and it's for 3 people
if it ends up being a short vacation with rich family, it could easily be that much.

He should have said in the beginning that it's in Monopoly dollars and not 100 posts down, this isn't an Australian forum
Still if you can plan this far in advance it should be doable for 5000 AUD, you don't have to stay at the Ritz just because your relatives are rich cunts.
Personally I think it's an absolute bitch move and nobody should attend, I'm from a rich European country and I would never go to Australia just for someone's wedding

Sorry I should’ve said they don’t just want to attend a wedding. They want to make a holiday out of it because that’s what the rich cousins are doing.

They can’t afford it dude, sorry. As another Aussie, our dollar is atrocious and $5k which most here would deem a reasonable holiday budget will not get them far. It’ll do flights and accommodation for maybe 3 or 4 days in EU and keep them fed.

Rich relatives are incredibly obtuse and lack awareness for suggesting the entire thing without coming to the table in some way to fund it for your parents.

this is why destination weddings usually piss off family members. They're expensive and you can't say no if you're close family or a close friend. On top of already helping out and even contributing money like op said. But narcissistic women continue to plan them because it's like a fairy tale.

Gonna be honest, as a european myself who traveled across eu before trust me, france is shit. Italy is shit. I just came back from a trip to Rome, u can call me a racist but anyone who has been to rome will know theres literal nagger checkpoints on the streets, around vatican and colosseum, they try to scam you/eye you/ steal from you. Theres armed army with machine guns posted around other important objects 24/7 rats on the street and so much trash you have no idea.
Unless youre going to some rural very classy area like renting a castle youre better off not going
Pic related from my recent italy trip. Right after getting off the train station i see this shit. Btw it literally smelled like shit in the train station, like someone shat in the corner, i just rushed out

Sydney is like this these days as well, except our homeless are Aboriginals instead, or the odd mentally ill white bloke. Outside of Town Hall station under a little footbridge they’ve set up a little campsite, and Eddy Avenue in front of Central has a row of sleeping bags and blankets where they crash for the night.

Sad, but at least your homeless are kind of locals. In EU the crime comes from negroes that come from abroad and are protected by law in a way. Theres more and more of them, your aboriginals are a dying breed who got conquered way back
But i think you have an asian problem? Like lots of asians coming into your country, but at least asians are hard working people, you dont see many asians running around robbing people, they are more likely to open a shop and sell you goods than anything xD

It'll cost $5k just for the flights over there for his parents and the aunty that lives with them. If they don't have passports already or passports have expired, they have to pay another $325 each to get one, that's another 1k. They might have to spend 6k before they even step one foot in France.

Sorry bro but the trip will be bad on finances. Your parents sound low IQ so chances are they need to arrange passports too which adds costs. Multiply that be three. Your parents will go broke trying to keep up with the Jones’s

Besides it’s a cousin. I doubt they’re even that close.

If she actually wants to go to France would maybe consider this. I wouldn't be pigeonholed into travel just because someones getting married there OP. Travel can be special, but I would remind her it may be better to travel later on, plus you can see more nearby countries and cultures. If its just France and fomo and its not her top 3 to see countries then wahts the point tbh
