My grandfather got it after WW2, he was in the navy and in the pacific fleet. Came home and got Polio not long after. It almost crippled him for life, they said it was years before he could walk right again. He was a bigger built strong man about 6" 250lb and after polio ate his leg muscles up, his thighs down to his ankles looked like they belonged on a 130lb man. Very slender, bones showing, calves were gone and one leg was twisted and he had problems walking even till he died about 5 years ago. He told me once when i was a kid and asked about his legs.
