Steam killing Win7 support

Well that's lame.
All the games I want to play run just fine on it.

Repent, homosexual. Despite the absolute state of modern so-called christianity all troons and LGBT are committing blasphemy. That includes you circumcucks, gentiles are exempt from that practice, that's for fucking israelites only because they deserve it. If you are circumcised your parents committed a sin.

I bet it will still run but all the store and community pages will just be fucked.

This is pretty much what happened on XP and Vista. You have to use a browser to buy your games.

The new versions of steam won't start on XP or Vista and the old version can't download games anymore, even with all the fixes and hacks

XP? Enjoy your viruses just by plugging into the internet.

Never gotten a virus once while using XP, and I've been using it for 5 years. Just use a router, avoid suspicious binaries, and keep the firewall on.

Unless you're playing games with incompatible anti-cheats, this is unironically the better option. Proton is a hell of a thing.

I really wish I could, but I've got a couple of garbage games that I play with friends that have incompatible anticheats and won't work in VM.
Kinda sucks but until we find a suitable game to switch to, I'll be stuck on Windoze.

Figured the same. I think people are misinterpreting "stopping support" for making Steam impossible to run on a certain platform though forced barriers rather than assume that ending support basically means that you can continue to use it, but if you encounter an issue you're on your own and with no update to solve said issue.

the problem is not steam, is the chromium that the store is built with, that drops the support

We have ton of browser support and what not on Win 7, fuck me, even xp has an up to date browser MyPal. Why biggest gaming platform has to move to least supported browser trash while every single other element on steam works just fine on win7?

        >Why biggest gaming platform has to move to least supported browser trash

Because they don't want to spend money making their own browser. Valve is retarded enough to leave themselves vulnerable to chrome and all its issues.

You don't have access to the steam codebase and cannot make an accurate judgement call on Windows 7's support cost. Why are gamers so retarded?

You got that backwards. They're moving away from the least supported OS.

Just don't use steam. Radical concept I know.

The problem here is that steam exclusive games will all become binary incompatible with 7 in the next few years. You already can't play any of the Valve library on XP anymore. All the steam game piracy sites like to keep their versions of the games up to date, so they'll be affected too. The only ones that will be spared are those seedy repacks on pirate bay.

What games still run on Windows 7 that do not run on Linux?
In my experience more games refuse to run on 7 at this point

Npt op, but I tried to switching to Linux just last week, and christ it was annoying. I even used a retard friendly distro (mint) and couldn't get it to work right. There's probably a way to get it to do what I want, but it just wasn't worth the effort. I'll just stick windows 10 on my burner laptop and use it to play modern games.

Is there a VM that is able to run Windows 10 or even 11 on win7?

Virtualbox and Qemu should do it

Any VM can do that, under the hood they all use the same CPU-provided virtualization features
