training is for TRAINERS and your direct line manager. i am there to offer advice and guidance but it is not a part of the kpi and not expectation. it is our sole discretion to give if if and when we want to. not to be an ass but i am not gonna advertise myself as a coach when i dont get paid for doing it.
Fair enough, I guess we work at different sized places, we don't have dedicated trainers so my seniors are responsible for knowledge sharing and I sometimes have juniors shadow them on tasks (though I select for the seniors who want to go into a people management direction and could benefit from having examples like this to point to as experience)

I'm a director in my department, and everything is very 'hands off' because I pay people to be professionals and I tell them that's the expectation. I've only ever had to fire one person (which sucked), but everyone wants to work in my department, even though we have a lot of hard work to do.

A week ago, I was up at 3am on Monday and I said to myself that I just couldn't do it anymore. The job I was at paid well and had great benefits, but the woman training me was a micromanaging bitch and the job I was training for went from 4:30pm to 5:30am Monday through Saturday. So that Monday I said fuck it and quit. Be careful when you do that though, I'm having trouble finding work now. My plan is to do two low stress, part time jobs, but I'm having trouble finding those. I can go a couple weeks and still be okay on rent, but I'll fall behind on bills if I don't find something soon. That's all to say it's better to have something lined up when you quit, but every fiber in my being was telling me that I'm too old to put up with shit jobs.
If my math is correct, I might actually make MORE doing two part time jobs than I did with one full time job. It'll be working more hours, but I won't mind that if they're low stress jobs.
I'm making more money than I ever have doing two unrelated part time contracts. I probably do a couple hours of what would be considered "work" and I barely have to interact with people. "Full time" is clearly a recipe for miserary and an early grave.

You might need to pull a therapist on him in the 1-on-1 with direct questions like "Are there concerns from the higher-ups about my performance? Is there a reason you feel the need to interrupt my work with this stuff?" and shit like that. If there's a good reason that he's hoverhanding you, get him to cough it up, otherwise, it gives you complete justification to tell him to ease off and spend his time managing the others in the department that need it and accept it.
I'm a director in my department, and everything is very 'hands off' because I pay people to be professionals and I tell them that's the expectation. I've only ever had to fire one person (which sucked), but everyone wants to work in my department, even though we have a lot of hard work to do.

A week ago, I was up at 3am on Monday and I said to myself that I just couldn't do it anymore. The job I was at paid well and had great benefits, but the woman training me was a micromanaging bitch and the job I was training for went from 4:30pm to 5:30am Monday through Saturday. So that Monday I said fuck it and quit. Be careful when you do that though, I'm having trouble finding work now. My plan is to do two low stress, part time jobs, but I'm having trouble finding those. I can go a couple weeks and still be okay on rent, but I'll fall behind on bills if I don't find something soon. That's all to say it's better to have something lined up when you quit, but every fiber in my being was telling me that I'm too old to put up with shit jobs.

If my math is correct, I might actually make MORE doing two part time jobs than I did with one full time job. It'll be working more hours, but I won't mind that if they're low stress jobs.
I'm making more money than I ever have doing two unrelated part time contracts. I probably do a couple hours of what would be considered "work" and I barely have to interact with people. "Full time" is clearly a recipe for miserary and an early grave.

Yeah I wasn't at this place long, but I could just tell it was slave labor. And yeah, the money was good, but money's not everything. I'll probably be kicking myself when some bills are due, but I'm tired of busting my ass for nothing in return. Misc is the only place that understands.
We're going through something similar at my company, we even call them fucking QBRs. Amazing. I just ignore these people. I actually build the things you homosexuals sell and make you money. So that approach almost always works and when it doesn't I run up on them directly and tell them to their face how it works.

What I would say is if you're a top performer, there's someone you can ride up on to flank his ass. If you're not, you'll have to deal with him. I would recommend directly. If he doesn't like what you have to say, you can always leave.
