Soldiers do not get a free pass from answering for the sins in combat. Murder is murder.

Soldiers do not get a free pass from answering for the sins in combat. Murder is murder. If you steal another person's life, then you will face judgement. Dead soldiers who have shed blood are now burning in hellfire. Sorry, that's just how it is.

Killing in war is sanctioned in the Bible, as the various wars commanded by God in the Bible demonstrate

This is correct. The last thing a Christian would want to do is kill somebody who is in sin; sending them directly to hell. That's the last thing a Christian wants. In fact Steven, who was in the process of being murdered, was only concerned with one thing. He prayed that God would not hold their sin of murdering him against them.

Moses existed prior to the sacrifice of Christ. His sins were forgiven in that moment. Events that happened afterwards are applicable when damnation is on the table.

      Is Moses burning in hell?

It's very unlikely. When Jesus was crucified he went down to preach to the dead. Anyone who died previous to Jesus's crucifixion would have had an opportunity to repent of any of their sins and join him.

          Anonymous

But he was in Hell before the crucifixion? When Yahweh commanded the conquest of Canaan and even punished the Israelites who were reluctant, was he effectively pushing the Israelites to spend some 1400 years in hell?

            Anonymous

God's commandments are for us. We're not smart enough to have our own prerogative to kill somebody. God is. If God commands such a thing then it is to be done. Just as we can't take it upon ourselves to make graven images of things above. But if God commands something like the Ark to be built, it is good to do so.

God will command killing during the end times. Just because that is the case, it does not give us the right to decide who lives and dies by our own prerogstives. That's why we have a commandment against it.

              Anonymous

So the Israelites were fine, but Moses did burn in hell for 1400 years because of the time he killed the Egyptian?

No, we don't go to hell until Judgment Day, technically. He was likely in Abraham's bosom and still is. Which is a paradise in Shoel. It is very likely that time does not work the same way there than it does here. We go to the place in Shoel that reflects where we ultimately will go after judgment day.
