They are in some cities in Finland. You need to be over 16

I remember hearing about that a while ago, but I'm still able to buy them from the self checkout without having to show an ID or anything.

Its not regulated. a lot of grocery stores just stopped voluntarily selling them to kids under 16 because of a widespread moral panic that happened in the early 2010's with parents complaining about energy drinks. Its legal to sell energy drinks to toddlers as long as they can pony up the dough.

Other than the sugar, what makes these any worse than just drinking coffee? And if you go to Starbucks or something you're probably already getting more calories

      Anonymous

      >Other than the sugar, what makes these any worse than just drinking coffee?
Probably all the extra shit they have (taurine, gingseng, l-carnitine, vit-B and more). I can drink a lot of coffee and feel well, but one monster is enough to make my heart feel like it's gonna explode for the entire day.

Unlike nicotine, caffeine isn't actually bad for you.

Energy drinks contain a lot of sugar, that's it. But I typically buy the low sugar or sugar free varieties. So......... what's the problem?

It's not caffeine the problem. There's a reason why you see these stories about teens having heart attacks after drinking one too many energy drink but you'll never see the same story because someone drank too much coffee.

        >There's a reason why you see these stories about teens having heart attacks after drinking one too many energy drink but you'll never see the same story because someone drank too much coffee.
Because the media is selective on what they report on. Don't rely on them for the truth. Look up studies in actual research journals instead.

youre retarded. Energy drinks can have upwards of 300mg of caffeine. A single cup of coffee contains 70mg. Its the caffeine and you shouldnt drink more than 1 and kids drinking several energy drinks are asking for trouble

          >Energy drinks can have upwards of 300mg of caffeine
Red Bull is 80mg the small can that is sold everywhere, Monster varies from 140 to 160 depending on the market. I've never seen anybody drinking those 200-300mg ones.

Yeah, because energy drinks taste like sweet soda. They taste good enough that kids are able to stomach more than one at a time. This is the only reason they're 'more dangerous' than strong coffee. If coffee tasted good to kids, you'd see news stories about kids dying after taking 20 shots of espresso in a row.

I had a original green Monster for the first time a few days ago and it tasted like crap, especially considering the sugar content.

Post the financial disclosures of those studies, the net worth and assets of the researchers, and their broader family and marriages (grandparents down to cousins and siblings and respective spouses). Almost all of them are beneficiaries to rental income in one way or another. Of course they're going to rig the results to fit their hypothesis which is why it's entirely contradicted by what the other poster pointed out.

Monster is 160mg I think which isn't an insane amount but it's high enough to cause an unpleasant crash if you don't have that much of a tolerance. With a low tolerance even just 50mg of caffeine is enough to feel a boost.

Tobacco regulation is a perfect case study of the harmful effects regulations do because they could get away with a lot more because most people hate it. Basically it amounted to a few big companies colluding with government to ban or make exorbitantly cost prohibitive anything they didn't make and erect massive barriers of entry to start a new company. Big business loves regulation
