Sure if you want to get fined. Or maybe spy a position for a while, then run for it?

            >if you want to get fined
do you need to register what you throw into a public trash can in america?

Also yours when your trash bin is on fire

            >public trash can
            it's the city's problem now
            >someone else's trash can
            it's your neighbor's problem now
            >shopping mall/fast food restaurant/etc trash can
            it's the owner's problem now
            >throw it as far as you can
it's whoever owns whatever it lands on problem now

I always just throw it away with the other trash, not your problem, don't overthink it.

And you could be caught doing it.
By throwing away trash, you will not be caught, totally safe.

You collect all your batteries for years because you don't want to throw them into the regular thrash.
    The batteries keep accumulating.
Ultimately you decide you can't be bothered to drive to some disposal center and you throw all your collection into the trash

In my country every shop is required to take batteries for free. You also get paid for bringing in aluminum and plastic

can anyone please explain to me why people save gold and silver, but we cant save batteries as investment?
once people start mass adoption of electric cars and the materials inside batteries are more rare, wont they increase in value?
or is it impossible to extract them from the battery?

Seems to me like lithium and other battery components will be like copper in the future only more rare and expensive

He has it because he's your boss. It's a luxury item. Electric cars will only increase in cost as normal cars decrease in viability.

We could totally recycle them, it's just not profitable atm, and nobody is taking the bet to hoard industry scale explosives for massive loss

Those kinds of hoarders will probably die in a house fire, just because of probability.

it would cost more to recycle them
recycling for most things is a meme

I read an article that there is some old gen1 toyota Rav4 hybrid which people scour junkyards for because the car is worth 2k but the battery components are like 20k, so they must be able to reuse them somehow

The elements used for batteries aren't rare, they won't run out even if every family on earth buys dozens of electric vehicles.

    discharge it to 0V.
it is now safe to throw away

you can hook an LED to discharge it quite a bit

0.1W will take ages and battery's charge controller will prevent it from going below safe levels. Removing controller may result in spontaenous combustion

        >0.1W will take ages
1W LEDs are extremely common, as are even higher wattages. but either way, so what if it takes long?

        >and battery's charge controller will prevent it from going below safe levels.
true but you can at least discharge most of the charge. are you sure phone batteries even have charge controllers? I mean yeah they probably do, but I can see this being on the phone itself

Running the charge controller on the phone's CPU is a terrible idea because any app could potentially interfere and cause hardware damage so I'd be surprised if Apple doesn't do so already.

            >Running the charge controller on the phone's CPU
thats not what i suggested. I suggested that the phone itself had a charge controller chip. I can see this being a safety advantage because it means 3rd party chinese batteries wont explode your phone

stab it with a knife on some pavement wearing gloves and preferably the knife or tool attached to something that isnt your hand, let it blow up & catch fire, then throw it in the trash. small phone batteries wont have enough energy to do anything except act like a firey vinegar/baking soda "bomb".

Just place it on some lit up logs somewhere in the desert and run away, lmao. It's just acid and metal, it's gonna come to a low energy point within couple of days. Some firewoeks too. You can burn ANY trash, it really does not matter for the planet.

Carefully put in a bag or box and put it in your bin.

It'll explode inside the garbage truck and do absolutely nothing.
