Serious question for a savvy stock guy with math head: What would the price of Link be if Sergey hadn't been dumping batches of 700,000 Link every week for the last 2 years? And also, what if he hadn't given away free Link to every Chainlink partner?"

weird how nobody every considers this. Price would be atleast 200 dollars weren't it for all that dumping

It was more than that right, I remember they ramped it up to like 1.5m tokens per week at the height up the bull market. That was something stupid like $60m USD or more per week in funding. It was no wonder Link never got anywhere near its ATH during Bitcoin's second peak at the end of 2021

What the fuck, but seriously wonder what would the price be

replies are clueless but savvy stock guy with math head is hilarious since you ask this question.
Used to work as sell side trader in small family shop (so literally tire 3 trader, bottom of the barrel) and still hurts to read OP asking and all answers.

Well you can look at the amount of inflation during the same period and compare it to other projects which had a much, much higher rate of inlation and lay it over price action and see rates of token inflation correlates very little with price action. Instead what is more likley is that the technology is not very exciting to retail investors, and instead tech that seems exciting is a much bigger indicator of price movement in crypto (Solana, NFTs,) or technology easy to grasp for retail (speed, scalability etc). Conversations around security or interoperability is rather boring, people would much rather think "Wow this network goes fast and the GUI is very cool" juxtaposed to "How do we build profitable networks that acting honest is game theory optimable"

One question can be debated for an hour and the other for years but retail has the attention span of about 5 minutes.

Right. In theory the OG bitcoin problem "solving the double spend problem" sounds boring af until you realize what the implications are.

You're ignoring the elephant in the room, which is the fact that Chainlink has no viable cash-flow positive product.

DEFI is dead in the water, a joke to the world full of bad code and pajeet scammers.
Even if LINK was the claimed TCP/IP protocol of DEFI, does anyone recall the corporation which issued TCP/IP becoming a hundred billion dollar software company, with an HQ in the Caymans, and issuing an illegal security to US retail investors?

      This shit is not investable.

The problem hasn't been Sergey dumping. In fact, very often the relationship was inversed; with Link dumping when Sergey wasn't, and Link pumping when Sergey was.
    Pic related.

The token supply dumping fud is so retarded that I'm surprised even biz could fall for it.

It has been known from day 1 that Sergey would be selling off tokens for RandD. And yet market participants chose to buy and sell LINK tokens such that the price used to be as high as $53, despite the fact that Sergey had been dumping 700k for several years already and had no intention of stopping. What this means for all you brainlets out there is that the token dumps have been priced in all along.

If anything, Sergey's recent announcement that token dumps would be a yearly 7% of the remaining tokens in the team wallets is something that is NOT priced in due to the fact that price has not reacted positively in light of news that for the first time ever, the token dumps are going to be smaller from here on out.

      >the price used to be as high as $53

Really is sad that you and the other LINKcels did not sell.. Here you are. 6 years later. Still waiting for your lives to start holding some worthless, inflationary shitcoin printed out of thin air by the hundreds of millions with nothing backing it.

      > the token dumps are going to be smaller from here on out.
is this some kind of subtle reverse fud? They're going to be dumping 7% of the total supply every year for the next few years. Which is fine, but what you're saying is simply false.

He means the inflation % is going to decrease every year until all the supply is circulating, which is true.

ignoring every secondary effect from selling the tokens (eg, stockpiling money to hire the best talent, subsidizing nudes to create a network effect, adding predictable weekly selling pressure to buy into) link would be a whopping $9.32

The dumping, by itself, isn't the sole cause of the shit price action. Every crypto project dumps. These dumps are accompanied by marketing to generate buyers and demand for the token.
What makes sergey special is that he insists on tiptoeing around like an autistic retard while doing the dumping.
