Should I stop learning CS and code monkey shit given recent developments? I'm currently a CS student and I really don't want to be out of work in the next 5-10 years. Any advice? Should I switch trajectories to IT or something? No meme answers please. Fell for all the FUD lately revolving around AI. Just concerned, that's all.
Serious question

Yay, another one of these excellent threads with 0 contribution to anyone. Thank you anon.
Yes you should stop learning - anything. Your services aren't needed anymore.
>Your services aren't needed anymore
Rent is still due though, so be prepared to sell a kidney.
I'm sorry
How much for a kidney
I could larp as native because I have a native ancestor from the 1600s, but that would be a stretch considering I'm as white as they come; well, for an american at least.
Fuck. Well, that do we do then? Are CS fags the humanities/liberal arts fags of the future?
>How much for a kidney
6 months of rent. Would this be something for you?
Just become a minority and beg for gibs
As you can tell from the slightly hysterical first post in this thread, the writing is on the wall for general SWE work. Maybe a couple more years but then programming is no longer something the average person can do to make money.
You should keep monkeying in code if you enjoy it. There's really only a handful of ways that all this could play out, so consider the possibilities.
1. Progress stalls. In this case, only shitters with no real skill lose their computer jobs.
2. AI becomes a useful tool, like a calculator. A calculator with a sexy Cortana body, and she lets you fuck her and you get to make some cool supersoftware shit with it, things no one can imagine right now.
3. You'll lose your job, but you'll be in the same boat as everybody else. Switching to IT or anything else won't make a difference.
4. The world ends.
None of these scenarios are better or worse because you switched jobs. If you have to compete with something smarter than you, then you better hope some kind of genetic modification or neural interface or something gets invented. You can't escape the consequences of a superintelligent being hyperiterating improvements because you have fingers to swap RAM sticks with.
God this shit is so demoralizing. I was so excited to finally start my career and eventually make good money. Now I genuinely don't know what to think or do given that all of this work I've been doing will amount to absolutely nothing in the coming years. Fuck man. I hate technology.
same bruh
you forgot #5 depopulation
>random israeli schizobabble
I should care why?
good goy
Unironically this is the best time to get a CS degree.
Besides, you can always learn anything not related to CS on your own, except engineering and medicine
How so?
My condolences
Already got fired from my job. It's over.
>Should I switch trajectories to IT or something
Oh no no no he doesn't know.
wat mean
>replacing CS, PhDs in several fields (doctors, lawyers, etc...)
>somehow, IT, a plebian field, safe
kek
Please do tell me how the predictive text engine is going to perform physical tasks like running wire or performing hardware replacement.

How is this not its own thread?
there are enough ai threads already
> should I stop studying CS at the midst of a very important CS breakthrough
Yes unironically, if you're that retarded yes you should leave.
Had no idea how prevalent this question for CS has become. I suppose its due to a myriad of Community Colleges creating boot camps for this field since it has such a low barrier of entry and study.
I say go ahead and continue, but you should keep expanding your knowledge beyond it to multiple fields to separate yourself from the degree and cert inflation caused by Community Colleges.
I mean, the world is ending in like a decade so 5 year plans and careers aren't really a thing anymore
Switch to something that requires at least some measure of interaction with the 3D world.
Hardware or physical technology is good.
I just want to become a wfh Data Analyst and jerk off to Emily Willis I have severe anxiety /depression and many other mental issues
Fuck this ai naggeria horseshit
Yes, OP. in the coming A.I apocalypse we're going to need somebody to serve us lattes.
i am with you on this fear op
i am young and am trying to get into programming to get a better job
but it IS a big time investment and i worry i will end up with useless knowledge that wont net me a job due to AI making companies need way less programmers and the huge amount of programmers there already are in the market
fuck if i had the time i'd do some trade course like eletrcity or welding for safety
