What did AMD mean by this? This is the worst piece of shit I have ever used in my life, it's been a 'known issue' for over a year and still no fix. That's it, I'm never buying anything other than Nvidia from now on.

I had all kinds of problems with both my RX580 and the Vega 64 back in the day.
No problems with my current RX 6800 XT, though. Everything works perfect

      It's a meme card.

my brother in christ use DDU to cleanse your PC's soul

Already did, no matter how far I roll the drivers back I still get FUCKED by shitty AMD software.

      works on my machine

      Based.

works on my GNU+Linux machine, either PEBKAC or it's some Windows bullshit

They've had it as a 'known issue' for over a year, not exactly a PEBKAC issue. It just doesn't happen to everyone for some reason, they don't even know what causes it.

My rx480 was perfect, my gtx670 was crap

Those cards are hit-or-miss, there's a chance you get fucked with driver timeouts up the ass or you get a decent card with no issue.

My brother in christ did you buy a second-hand mining card?

No, brand-new, I already checked BIOS for any overclocking/mining fuckery but it was all factory defaults.

could be a hardware defect, idk what's wrong with yours but my rx 580 has never had a timeout with its drivers. I did have a crash when i played space engineers but that was because I had resizable bar enabled.

I did a lot of research on the topic trying to figure out a fix or a solution, or even something to reduce the frequency of these timeouts.
What I found, however, was that:
              A) AMD knows about this but are doing nothing to fix it since it's a software-related issue
              B) It's not a consistent issue, as in not every card suffers from it, it seems to happen to some cards but not the others, it's very strange.
              C) No matter what you do, you can't stop it, it's like the passage of time, it will catch up to you, and it will destroy your soul.

          >muh mining card
lmao, I have a 1070 and 3080 that I mined on every day for 2 years, and they're both fine. i'd be more worried about buying a used gaming card that sat in an undusted PC for 2 years.

It really wouldn't surprise me if it really was some type of hardware defects in certain AMD GPUs.
Could explain the massive difference in anecdotals.
The real insult is that you might have these hardware defects but chock it up to software issues so you never RMA the shit and get stuck with a shitty card forever.

Try 22.5.1. drivers or older, the newer ones have constant issues, hardware acceleration doesn't work most of the time and causes the mentioned driver timeouts and blackscreens, especially when you have more than one monitor connected, that have different refresh rate.

      Anonymous

Yeah I got that advice from a couple of forum posts when I was checking out how to reduce the frequency, been on 22.5.1 for the past few weeks, while it's a little better, it hasn't stopped. I only use one monitor anyway and actively avoid any overclocking or similar shit to make sure that the card isn't put under too much stress, no luck.

Anon at this point everyone knows that AMD GPUs are best on linux where autists make the driver themselves, while Nvidia is best on windows since the company provides you the driver. Get a cheap 3060, it's better. And never buy AMD aside from Sapphire or Powercolor+.

Probably because hardware acceleration is broken.

Not really. I was into BTC mining back in 2010 and it's true that Sapphire were the real warriors, +100-200 and sometimes +300 MHz on 45nm node. MSI was OK tho, didn't OC one bit. XFX? Never had it, PowerColor? Use it now, no probs if no OC. ASUS? Chink trash, worse than MSI because it actually didn't work OOTB until some modding.
