The difference is that those countries do it to naturally supply electricity. Britain had to do it because they were in an emergency. Clearly there is a difference here.

Coal is fine. The UK actually burns wood, imported from the US, to produce electricity and since wood cannot heat up enough they throw in pieces of rubber. This is what they call green energy.

            Anonymous

            Wood is reisraeliteable at least.
I burn wood but it dosent come from abroad.

Also what else are you gonna do with rubber? It makes sense to burn it rather than throw it in landfill.

              Anonymous

You burn wood for heat not electricity i assume. Its a very innefficient way of producing electricity and it is not in any way green.

                Anonymous

I always presumed it would be slightly more efficient to burn wood in a power station and make it in to electricity.
My stove is over 90% efficient. But I lose maybe 40% of the heat up the chimney in the hot flue gasses.
In a proper power station you could reclaim a lot more of the heat from the exhaust gasses. Then you have to generate electricity at like 70% efficiency. Maybe 60% if you count losses to the energy grid.
So presuming my 40% guess is accurate its about the same.

Plus in a proper power station you can burn household waste. That helps reduce the need for landfill and provides free energy.
There is literally no down side to that.

This is actually something a lot of people don't realize. The green agenda is massively funded by Russia. Ever notice how coal and nuclear (which is actually the cleanest, safest energy type) aren't considered green, but gas is?

No. Almost none of the gas the UK used came from Russia, and hasn't for a year now.

Problem is the UK is being driven to destruction by extreme far leftists who are pushing insane green energy policies that simply cannot support a country.
At least several times a year for the past few years has the UK had problems with it's power supply. Either it's not sunny enough or the wind stops blowing. When this happens they have to resort to alternative methods of energy generation, but those alternative methods are being gradually shut down so eventually the UK will just get power outages when it's not very windy.

I call them unreliables because they ain't "renewables" and they aren't "green". What they are is absolutely retardedly unteliable.
One thing the countries could possibly change is to abolish requirements for the energy providers to buy the unteliables first. But they will never do that and the "emergency " will be lifted when it gets warmer and the next winter will prove very deadly.
We have energy to keep nature at bay and to prevent death from cold(71x more than the deaths from heat) but if depopulation is the desired effect then they won't do shit.

i like how smug bongs were at first because they barely used any russian gas, which is true. however what they didn't realize is that much of the gas they do use comes from the open market. and because russian gas is now removed from european markets, the prices began to go up because all the other countries which used to rely on russian gas now had to compete with bongs on the open market.

people are so retarded they literally thought that you could just remove russian gas from the market altogether and that this somehow wouldn't be a complete fucking disaster. at best we (europe) will be looking at 2x-4x permanent price increase depending on whether it's summer or winter. it's a huge additional cost that will further reduce the competitiveness of european industry, which in turn will reduce our living standards and increase inflation.

Yes we closed down a lot of our refineries and stuff because of the green agenda. But we still need energy and fuel and stuff so we buy it in at great expense from overseas.
Before the special operation we were shipping diesel to Russia to be refined. 75% of our diesel was refined in Russia. So we were obviously fucked when the special operation started.

                Anonymous

Shipping it would tank the price without already having massive oil tankers (our oil companies dont) and a pre planed buyer who don't already have access to cheaper oil (also don't)

                Anonymous

I dont know how much oil is there but if its significant it will easily justify a new tanker to be built. Eventually all the oil in the North sea will run out and we will need another alternative.

Europe is the obvious place to sell oil because everyone is so poorly prepared in terms of energy. Governments naively think we are gonna change over to reisraeliteables in just 2 more weeks. Then when its clearly not working we pay out of the ass for an emergency supply of fossil fuels we rely on.

Funny. Not funny at all. But coal going away created a massive decline for certain businesses. I understand the necessity for clean energy. And yes we need to be mindful of our natural resources. As well as work towards a more refined and cleaner energy. But good thing they had a coal back up system. For their sake. It shut down a few businesses here locally when they got rid of it. A lot of people lost their jobs. Which I understand there has to be sacrifice for the greater good. But who gets to make those decisions in the end?
