I always presumed it would be slightly more efficient to burn wood in a power station and make it in to electricity.
My stove is over 90% efficient. But I lose maybe 40% of the heat up the chimney in the hot flue gasses.
In a proper power station you could reclaim a lot more of the heat from the exhaust gasses. Then you have to generate electricity at like 70% efficiency. Maybe 60% if you count losses to the energy grid.
So presuming my 40% guess is accurate its about the same.
Plus in a proper power station you can burn household waste. That helps reduce the need for landfill and provides free energy.
There is literally no down side to that.

Funny. Not funny at all. But coal going away created a massive decline for certain businesses. I understand the necessity for clean energy. And yes we need to be mindful of our natural resources. As well as work towards a more refined and cleaner energy. But good thing they had a coal back up system. For their sake. It shut down a few businesses here locally when they got rid of it. A lot of people lost their jobs. Which I understand there has to be sacrifice for the greater good. But who gets to make those decisions in the end?
