Rounded corners

Why is this even a thing and when will this bullshit meme go away?
It's scary for me, I want to see the whole content without having 0.25% of it chopped away, it hurts to look at it and is actually scary, why do they make everything so weird and pointless nowadays?

It's fine in Windows, though, because it's just the taskbar and status bar.

but the taskbar should look like it's "sticking" to the bottom edge of the screen, otherwise it looks odd
first flatshit meme, now this, why, just why

Rounded corners are here to stay, because they simply look better.

      >they look better
no they don't, they actually make me anxious cause I can't see the whole thing
if you want to see something that "looks better" see OS X Mountain Lion or idk win7 or vista
      >inb4 aero had rounded corners too!!!
the actual content was separated from it, plus the curvature wasnt this big back then

I'm sure those 30 pixels of whitespace chopped off the corners have so much valuable information, so it's reasonable to be anxious over it.

The corners in old versions of mac os were much smaller than on nu-macs, and not all windows were rounded. If you open a video in QT, the video itself won't be rounded. The corners didn't really use to cut off content.

            >and not all windows were rounded
see, to me the inconsistency is the problem. Don't they have UI design standards? It's a billion dollar, global company for gosh-sakes.

I've tried to move over from macos to Mint and just can't get there. All my documents since 2006 are in mac format, and accessing the macos partition from the Mint partition is too kludgy to inspire me to move them over. I just got a new mac mini the other day, maybe I'll try with that since I'm starting new.

That's how it still is, Cocoa is one of the rare things about macOS that always maintains compatibility with older software and that includes the shape of the window. It's just Windows that decided on making the rounded corner massive.

              Anonymous

Both are massive, and Apple is the reason why it's this way. They bumped up the border radius when they fucked up the UI of OS X.
              >maintains compatibility with older software
Isn't it easy to maintain compatibility when you can just tell the user that his program is too old and he should updoot it

                >They bumped up the border radius when they fucked up the UI of OS X.
OS 9 has a perfectly coherent UI as did NeXT and for what its worth I am a Window Maker adherent and use it to this day but the merger of the two, that is Mac and NeXT, was a disaster.

No, you don't understand – as long as you used Cocoa when developing your app, it's going to automatically look modern and coherent with the rest of the OS and have all the recent features like tabbed windows even if you didn't touch it since 2010.

I know you're memeing but from what i saw on the nets, there are "people" who legit believe it, how about not getting anxiety because you cant see something, like, as if it was hidden away from you
maybe we should make books rounded next?

I'm sure those 30 pixels of whitespace chopped off the corners have so much valuable information, so it's reasonable to be anxious over it.

yes, 30 pixels lost to just make it look weird an unnatural, monitors aren't curved (thank g-d) and modern shit designs are only about making everything look worse for some reason

Have you a look at your furniture? It probably has round corners in many places.
If you think round corners are ugly or unnatural, then each to their own. But you are clearly a minority with that opinion.
        >chopping off actual content
What exactly is this "actual content" that occupies a minute amount of the corners of the video, and why is it so important that it should take priority over aesthetics?

furniture isn't media, plus it actually looks good, speaking of furniture, i thought modern design doesnt like curvy furniture anyway cause it's not "muh minimalistic" enough, everything has to be white black or grey, everything needs to be depressing, sad, and sold under the pretext of looking "muh modern", while we only regress, to a primitive state where the main colors of everything are either monochrome or bisexual flag colors, everywhere
my fav color used to be purple but this shit ruined it for me
          >What exactly is this "actual content" that occupies a minute amount of the corners of the video, and why is it so important that it should take priority over aesthetics?
how are you not seeing how ridiculous you sound
          >not being able to see the whole thing is good actually!! muh aesthetic!!!
          no it isn't

yeah windows 11 corners bothers me too than windows 7 as it felt natural.. that and xp too.

yeah, honestly im starting to think the real reason for this shit is to make people depressed tbh, like in that windows xp vs linux desktop meme

Most phones screens definitely are. And that is the premier form factor most people are going to be choosing for content consumption.

          >most phone screens definitely are
yeah, nowadays, they also have ugly notch added in the middle of the screen, same crap, different story, all about making it look shit

          >zoomers are having mental breakdowns at the thought of losing a couple pixels at the corners which only contain padding anyways

            >yeah, nowadays, they also have ugly notch added in the middle of the screen, same crap, different story, all about making it look shit
No, notches allow for more screen real estate, where previously you would have a massive black bezel at the top of the phone.

              >No, notches allow for more screen real estate, where previously you would have a massive black bezel at the top of the phone.
well duh, the bezel looked nice, but here we're also talking about completely different thing, back then you could take off the back, take out battery unscrew couple screws and take out the camera (I used to do it very often back in the day), but again, "muh aesthetics" won over usability, and it doesnt even look good

It is a most retarded thing to add flawed real estate to your screen just got the sake of quantity. When designing something, you should ask yourself, "is this naggerlicious?" A hole in the screen is exactly that. So is rounding the corner of a window with content in it. Browsers started doing this too, and it looks ridiculous.
