They basically just tuned their instruments to open D and played chords that work in standard, giving it a sort of folky moodiness. An entire generation of 90s misfits buy all their albums. We've been had.

I've never seen something more autistic than implying an alternative tuning is some sort of con job. Genuinely get your brain checked my man.

What do you even mean by this? Can't be chord shapes because that would be dissonant ass. So what, "omg they played D then A then G, those are chords that people play in standard!"
Nigga those are just chords, chords are chords. The fuck you mean

They have a handful of top tier tracks, but I recently went through an album or two of theirs and for the most part they're lacking.

They used guitars and drums too it's just completely derivative garbage. They even used singing like cave men.

Their gimmick is to act like they're more intelligent than they really are while sliding in references for why they're atheists while thinking they're being clever with doing it.

Husker Du was better, and they only had THREE members.

michael stipe has fairly unique vocals/lyrics that's part of their appeal

obviously their original sound in the '80s was less mainstream

    >90s misfits
Ah yes, this is what misfits listen to.
One of the most popular rock bands of the 1990s! That'll make sure they don't blend in with the crowd!
